The Rainbow Readers Q***r Book Club announces its last title of 2026, to be read now and discussed on December 14th.

"So Many Stars" is a first-of-its-kind oral history told through a kind of collective coming of age story, from novelist Caro De Robertis. This is a history told by real voices, through hundreds of hours of interviews, of a generation of Trans, GenderQ***r, Two-Spirit and Nonbinary Elders of Color.

This book can be purchased from many online services, as well as thrift and secondhand book shops. The Rainbow Readers Book Club meets on the second Monday of each month at 6pm at Stonewall Chico. The group is free but attendees are asked to secure copies of their own books and come having read enough of it to participate in the discussion. The meeting to discuss this book will be Monday, December 14th at 6pm, at Stonewall Chico - 358 e. 6th st.

Dolores Huerta: Champion of civil rights, icon of labor rights advocacy, co-founder of the National Farm Workers' Association and a clear voice for inclusionary feminism, grassroots activism, and the power of all people who unite, passed away last week on October 28th. She was 96 years old and had spent most of her life at the front lines of change, bringing generations of marginalized people hope and power.

It feels fitting to be able to honor her directly so soon, with Election Day upon us. Huerta, who established countless standards in organizing and protesting for change, was very clear on the value of voting.

"If people don't vote, everything stays the same. You can protest until the sky turns yellow or the moon turns blue, and it's not going to change anything if you don't vote."

If you have a mail-in ballot, it is too late to mail it in now so put it in an official ballot drop box or take it to a voter assistance center, anywhere in the county where you live. A list of Butte County ballot drop boxes are listed in the second picture.

If you do not have a mail-in ballot, you can register to vote same-day, get a replacement ballot if you are already registered to vote but don't have yours, or vote in person for any other reason. A list of Butte County voter assistance centers are in the third picture.

Big announcement: Stonewall Chico's hosting the Building Collective Bridges HIV Forum at our own Center! In partnership with , makers of oral PrEP and 6-month injectable option as well as several local community health organizations, we present this HIV Education Forum on November 17, 2026, 11am-2pm at Stonewall Chico, 358 e. 6th street in Chico, CA.

Facilitators from GILEAD and Stonewall Chico present a collaborative forum focused on HIV and AIDS in our community, bringing together medical and mental health professionals, case managers, social workers, peer educators, PrEP and health educators, school-based health educators, clinicians, clinical staff, and community members committed to advancing HIV prevention, treatment, care, and education.

Learn about ways to offer PrEP, bring up sexual health discussions, how to get PrEP covered at $0 cost, and share counseling tips that actually work.

The forum is free to attend, anyone interested is welcome, and lunch is provided!

A few of the Stonewall Chico social & support groups are looking for a facilitator or two to join the existing folks and co-facilitate these community meetings and social hours.

Currently searching for people to facilitate are:
🦉OWLs (Older, Wiser LGBTQs) Group: 1 or 2 facilitators. Must identify as an "older adult" and be LGBTQ+.
🌺QTPOC (Q***r and Trans People of Color): Looking for 1 additional co-facilitator. Must be 18+ and identify as QTPOC yourself.
🦦Q***r Autters (Autistic people who are LGBTQ+): Looking for 1 additional co-facilitator. Must be 18+, LGBTQ+ and be somewhere on the Autism spectrum yourself.
🤲Parents of LTBTQ+: Looking for 1 additional co-facilitator. Must be 18+ and a parent to an LGBTQ+ child.
📖Rainbow Readers book club: Looking for 1 additional co-facilitator. Must be 18+ and love to read!

What are our social groups:?
Shared spaces for members of the LGBTQ+ community to find friends amongst folks with similar identities or special interests. Many groups meet monthly or weekly in-person here in our office, but some may meet elsewhere in the community, or even remotely via Zoom. These are totally free spaces that anyone can join, although some groups may require completing a short registration form. Folks can expect good conversations, a variety of group activities, and usually some light snacks.

What are the expectations for facilitators?
Group Facilitators prepare the physical meeting space and any materials. The role of the facilitator is to keep conversation flowing, make sure all participants are given the opportunity to engage, uphold established boundaries, and generally ensure the space feels safe for all participants. We have arts & crafts, games, and a television for groups to utilize during their sessions. Facilitators will also receive training in conflict resolution and de-escalation in case of tensions between group members, but you can always reach out to a Stonewall staff member when you need support.

Vote early day is TODAY. Saturday, October 24th. Seal and sign your ballot and make your way to the nearest ballot box and drop it in.
Find the drop boxes and voting locations in your area by visiting www.VoteEarlyDay.org, and while you're on their website check out the map of official Vote Early Day celebrations and events. You can see the Voter Mobilization event that Stonewall Chico did last week with The League of Women Voters at Chico Chai!

Not sure how you want to vote on all of the measures and elections? Don't let that stop you from voting at all -- it's okay to leave some contests blank when you turn in your ballot. And if you just don't have time to learn about all of it, most political parties and many political organizations publish voting guides for California and specifically Chico so if you know of one you trust to align with your interests, look them up and use the research they've already done.

We like to say, "if voting didn't matter, billionaires wouldn't spend fortunes to campaigns."

Our Board of Directors is currently taking on new members, and looking for folks of all kinds. If you are over 18 years old with any relevant experience and an interest in volunteering monthly to help guide and support the development of Chico’s LGBTQ+ Center, we want to hear from you. Our Board needs young people with new ideas, mature people with experienced ideas, and everyone in between with unique perspectives. If you’re curious, reach out. You might be surprised how qualified you are.

Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence are prevalent all year, but we're talking about it a lot right now because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Catalyst Domestic Violence Services is Chico's local place to go for help with DV, and they are partnering with Chico State's on-campus Safe Place for sexual assault and intimate partner violence for several special events this month.

On Thursday, Oct 22nd they present two events on the Chico State Campus, in BSS room 112:
- 3-5pm: A free community training how to recognize DV and IPV, and what to do when you see it or experience it. Register at https://DVAM2026training.eventbrite.com

- 5-6pm: the annual Flowers on the Creek memorial to honor the people in Northern California who have lost their lives to Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence.

The LGBTQ+ Community experiences a disproportionately high rate of DV and IPV, so this issue is even closer to our hearts. According to studies by the CDC, US Dept of Justice and National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey -
- Over 81 million people have reported experiencing DV or IPV in their lifetimes.
- 35% of all women, and 29% of all men have reported experiencing DV.
- 44% of Le***an women, 61% of Bisexual women (89.5% of which from male partners), and 54% of Transgender and Nonbinary people experience DV.

Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence can include Emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse and assault, technological abuse including stalking, and financial abuse.

An FBI report released in February of this year shows that during 2020-2024, U.S. Law Enforcement reported 11,000 domestic violence murder victims and an additional 1.1 million cases of domestic physical assault, robbery and sexual assault. There were more than 70,500 incidents of teen relationship violence just in 2024.

Still, the Council on Criminal Justice reports estimates that roughly 44-52% of DV and IPV cases are not reported to police. This number is higher in our LGBTQ+ Community because of an earned distrust of police, lack of family and financial resources, and shame.
