An enormous thank-you to the Chico Natural Foods Co-Op for hosting our round-up donation drive in June, and a similarly large thank you to our community who participated! The results are in -by rounding up to the nearest dollar at the Chico Natty register and donating the difference to Stonewall, you helped raise over $500 in June.
That's pretty impressive!

The Rainbow Readers Q***r Book Club has announced their September-October Read: 'Lavender House,' an historic Q***r murder-mystery by Lev A.C. Rosen.

A classic 'whodunnit' style detective murder mystery featuring the widow of a scented-soaps maven, a disgraced gay ex-cop detective, and a mansion where Q***r people are free to be themselves in an era where doing so outside was very dangerous. Lavender House is a short read, as a 280-page murder mystery set in 1950's San Francisco featuring a Q***r cast.

This book can be purchased from many online services, as well as thrift and secondhand book shops. The Rainbow Readers Book Club meets on the second Monday of each month at 6pm at Stonewall Chico. The group is free but attendees are asked to secure copies of their own books and come having read enough of it to participate in the discussion. The meeting to discuss this book will be Monday, October 12th at 5:30pm.

The deadline to submit art and vendor applications is now just a month away! If you've got questions about submissions, art, the gallery, the event, or COFA of any kind, email [email protected] to clear them up.

Submit through the link in our bio, at www.stonewallchico.com, or through this url: https://forms.gle/UXcnPuMhJ5sbQhKs7

Humans are storytellers. It's how we record the past, learn lessons, make meaning, form identities, and understand our place in the world. Censorship and narrative control of Q***r and Trans histories, realities, and futures attempt to bury our existence but when we choose and hold the stories that define us, teach us and sustain us, we choose and hold power for ourselves. For COFA 2026, we invite you to bring art that tells your stories, your ancestors' stories, and your communities' stories as we co-create a Q***r anthology of things we must not forget.

People of any age and experience level who are LGBTQIA2S+ (Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Nonbinary, Q***r, Intersex, Asexual or Demisexual, 2-Spirit) are invited to submit work.

To offset the cost of renting the gallery space and producing the event, vendors are asked to pay $20 and artists pay $15 per piece submitted. A financial assistance program is available to folks for whom this is a hardship. A way to pay online will be sent via email after your submission is accepted.

Submissions close September 18th. The gallery will be open October 1st until Oct 31st during MONCA's open hours, Thurs-Sun, 11am-5pm. The Grand Reception on the evening of October 16th will feature our vendor fair and any music/performance art pieces.

On Sunday, September 6th local death doula Thistle (they/them) returns to Stonewall Chico for another installment of the popular Mortali-Tea series: an open discussion on death, dying, and mortality with a lens from the LGBTQ+ community, but open to all.

This session will feature special guest Yuba Spirit Threshold Choir. Bring your questions, thoughts, curiosities, fears and hopes to this gentle but honest conversation space to enjoy tea and snacks while talking about this subject which is often ignored, avoided and misunderstood.

So that everyone can speak freely on this sensitive and potentially vulnerable subject matter, this conversation is open to adults only for now.

Join us on Sunday, September 6th from 1:30-3:00 pm at Stonewall Chico (358 e. 6th st. near Downtown Chico) and email Thistle ahead of time if you have any questions: [email protected]

Last Week, 's Angel Huracha came to interview Stonewall Chico's Executive Director and staff about the funding changes we face because of Butte County's rearrangement of funds as they transition from the Mental Health Services Act to the Behavioral Health Services Act, the ramifications of those changes, and what we're doing to prepare for the future.

Angel then published an excellent article which you can read here: https://www.mynspr.org/news/2026-08-07/stonewall-alliance-chico-navigates-loss-of-funds-launches-new-campaign

Since we announced this shift in funding several months ago, organizations and people like Angel have been reaching out to learn more and see how they can help. We have been seeing a trend of care and solidarity from several groups and are very glad for it - with help from others, we've been able to get the word out about our Stability Development Fund (designed to help us forge a more sustainable path forward in the event that we don't secure budget from Butte County) and other programming and initiatives. It is heartening to see the understanding in our community that LGBTQ+ services and necessary for the wellbeing of all of us, and that the wellness of all social justice, identity and mental health causes are connected to one another.

Since launching in June, our Stability Development Fund has now raised over 20% of its goal ($8,000) in its first 3 months and continues to grow every day. As of this post, there is $1625 in the fund.

We are asking for donations of just $25 - or more if you're able to give it. You can donate, read up on what the fund is, and see why it's needed at https://www.stonewallchico.com/stability-fund.

Big thank you to Angel Huracha, NSPR, and all the other people and organizations who have been reaching out to help! Please keep it up, and if you're considering whether you have something to offer or could be involved - now is the time to find out.
