STONEWALL CHICO STABILITY DEVELOPMENT FUND NOW OPEN: LET’S GROW FOR GOOD.

Stonewall Chico is navigating a changing and uncertain landscape. Anti-DEI budget cuts, legislation, and sentiment at the Federal level are making their way to us while many regular donors are facing threats to their own financial stability. CA Prop 1 means that Butte County funding is shifting, and our long-running contract with them has ended. How we will be included in new structures is currently unknown.

While all this uncertainty is unsettling, it does bring something certain into focus: it's time to invest in the stability of Stonewall Chico's funding sources. As the only public-facing organization providing LGBTQ+ competent and life-saving education, advocacy, mental and social health services in our area, continuing this work doesn't feel optional.
We're opening the Stability Development Fund with the intention to raise $8000. This legacy fund will allow us to prepare for changes responsibly, now and in the future by:
- Investing in grant writing capacity, fundraising strategy, and fiscal planning
- Mapping a path to programming that makes sense in this new paradigm
- Working with expert advisors to plan a sustainable funding system

With a small team of just 1 full-time Administrator and 4 part-time staff, our working hours are filled with keeping the Center and its programs functioning. This fund would allow us to use time and personnel which are not usually available to us.

Meanwhile, Stonewall Chico is already taking other actions to try and stabilize ourselves. We are working toward the development of a Medi-Cal billing pathway. We are also partnering with a coalition to advocate for an existing proposed CA State budget for LGBTQ+ Centers like ours, and we are pursuing ongoing grant and fundraising opportunities.

Join us in this investment toward sustainable futures for our local Q***r and Trans community. A donation of just $25 helps us along the way. If you can give more, please do. Let’s grow for good together.

CALL TO ACTION: Contact State Representatives by June 15th to advocate for LGBTQ+ Center investment.

Speak up to tell CA State Representatives to vote and establish the proposed LGBTQ+ Community Center Fund in the 2026-27 CA State budget. There is a dedicated $35 million that would sustain centers like ours, but a budget revision in May incorrectly moved and reduced the fund.

LGBTQ+ Centers are lifelines across California, with our combined 40+ Centers providing safety, care and belonging to over 23,000 Californians each week - that’s 1.2 million people annually.

The CA State fund would help tremendously to stabilize and ensure the longevity of small LGBTQ+ organizations like Stonewall Chico, which are navigating a shifting and uncertain landscape of funding, legislation, and support right now.

Please fill the form and call the numbers below as often as you can until the budget is finalized, June 15th.

A script for calls:
Hi, my name is [NAME], and I’m calling to urge [ELECTED OFFICIAL] to fully fund the proposed $35 million LGBTQ+ Community Center Fund in the final 2026–27 state budget. LGBTQ+ community centers provide critical services like mental health care, housing support, HIV services, youth programs, and safe spaces, especially for transgender people, youth, seniors, and underserved communities.

Offices to call:
Sen. Laird - Senate Budget Chair: 916-651-4017
Assm. Gabriel - Assembly Budget Chair: 916-319-2046
Sen. Menjivar - Senate Health Budget Chair: 916-651-4020
Assm. Dawn Addis - Assm. Health Budget Chair: 916-319-2030
Speaker Robert Rivas: 916-319-2029
Senate Pro Tem Monica Limon:916-651- 4021
