We’re stepping into September with so much gratitude for the donations and excitement towards Season 20! Thank you so much for helping make our August ✨Donation a Day✨ campaign a success! The generosity of contributions is supporting our rehearsal costs and dancer stipends as we start this new season.

Don’t forget about our End of Summer class series! Wednesdays from 9:15 to 10:30 AM at Dance Moves of Charleston. Open to everyone, the class includes modern dance technique, improvisation, and repertory. The last day of this series is September 23rd.

And of course, we are deep in rehearsals for our Season Opener on Friday, September 11th at High Wire Distilling Co. We can’t wait to share the new work we are creating with choreography from 20 different pieces of company repertory! The event starts at 5:30, with the performance at 6:15. It’s a great venue with delicious food and drink for purchase and plenty of time to catch up with the company members!

We just wrapped three days of rehearsal, and weekends like this are some of our favorite.
Time together in the studio, creating, investigating, laughing, and preparing something we can’t wait to share.

Dolly’s words feel especially fitting here. They remind us to stay true to who we are and believe in what we’re creating.

Art is meant to be experienced together, and this week, we’re celebrating SHARE.

After months of creating and collaborating, we have the privilege of sharing that work on stage and in spaces where dance can inspire conversation and curiosity. We love our Season Opener because it gives us the chance to spend more time with our audience than a quick post-show chat. This year, sharing feels especially meaningful as we celebrate 20 seasons of making, performing, learning, and growing together. We’ll be sharing a little bit of our history during the Season Opener with a new work that brings weaves together pieces of our repertory from throughout the years.

This week, we’re celebrating CONNECT: the ways dance brings us together, strengthens our community, and opens us to new possibilities.

Throughout Season 20, we’ll continue expanding our connections in many ways: through our Art Meets Movement workshops, partnerships with Engaging Creative Minds, the Charleston Gaillard Center, and the Gibbes Museum, open company classes, residencies with high school and college dance programs, and artist talks that invite audiences into the creative process. These experiences give us opportunities to build relationships that reach far beyond the stage!

We’re headed to camp next week!

Come dance with us at the Gibbes Museum of Art Summer Camp for Grown-Ups on Wednesday August 5th from 5-7pm. They have a great evening planned with a number of vendors and community partners!

A night of art-making and FUN, this FREE event was a company favorite last year! Hope to see you there!
