Vision 2030: Small Tools Make a Big Impact💥
Did you know simple strategies can make a significant impact on someone experiencing vision loss?
Through the Vision 2030 initiative, Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired SC (ABVI) is helping adults successfully adjust to vision loss through life-changing technology training.💻

When Robert* realized he could no longer identify important bills in the mail or view an email from a dear family member, he reached out to ABVI for help. Declining vision can cause simple, routine tasks to become cumbersome and overwhelming. However, through ABVI, Robert received the assistive technology training he needed to read his mail independently and quickly navigate important apps on his phone. Thanks to funding through the Vision 2030 initiative, ABVI provided the essential skills training Robert needed to adjust to his diminished vision without diminishing his independence in daily life!💪

Clients like Robert are referred from partner agencies, community partners, and local eyecare providers and assessed for vision rehabilitation needs at Vision 2030 low vision clinics.

Vision rehabilitation is individualized and looks different for everyone. Clients may learn how to:
⭐Complete routine tasks in a new way
⭐Use low vision technology and devices
⭐Use a white cane to move safely and confidently

Vision 2030: Restoring Sight, Renewing Hope✨

Logan, a graduate student at Clemson University, began experiencing headaches and blurred vision that quickly progressed to a total loss of vision. Seeking answers, an ophthalmologist discovered that Logan had a cataract in one eye and a retinal detachment in the other. As a student, the cost of surgery was out of reach. He lived with the effects of vision loss, remarking, “it took a toll on [his] mental health.”

Although he relied on a white cane to navigate campus, walking became challenging and unsafe. Logan was connected to Lions Vision Services through the Union Lions Club and received the sight-saving surgery he needed through the Vision 2030 initiative. He now feels “more independent—driving, taking care of [himself].”

The FREE life-changing eyecare services available through the Vision 2030 initiative enabled Logan to set his sights on his next venture: becoming a physician and helping others.💙

Vision 2030: The Power of Preventative Eyecare👁️
Thanks to funding through the Vision 2030 grant initiative, Servants for Sight is giving individuals with vision loss a new chance at seeing the world.

Throughout his life, Phillip struggled to maintain a job and relationships because of diminished eyesight. Simple tasks at his job in a fast-food restaurant became difficult. Food orders and point-of-sale screens appeared blurry and illegible. These persistent issues eventually led to a relentless sense of job insecurity and isolation. His inability to discern familiar faces made every day social interactions challenging and unsettling.

However, through the Vision 2030 initiative, Servants for Sight provided Philip with a simple yet essential service—an eye exam. After receiving his first-ever pair of eyeglasses, he is now gainfully employed and enjoys connecting with others! Phillip shared that the vision services not only restored his ability to see but also helped him feel truly seen.✨
