We love bears! National Black Bear Day is the first Saturday in June, but we want to keep sharing this project with you!

The Penobscot Black Bear Study is helping scientists better understand black bears in Maine, their relationship with people, and their role in our ecosystems. This research provides valuable insights that support wildlife management, conservation, and even human health research. 🐾

And we need your help.

By donating to this project, you directly support field research, data collection, equipment, student training, and the ongoing work needed to answer important questions about one of Maine's most iconic species.

No gift is too small. Whether you can give $10 or $100, your support helps advance science and conservation that benefit both wildlife and communities.

Who are the people who make CWS go round? Let's meet Dr. Jack Hopkins! 🐻🌎

Dr. Jack Hopkins, President & CEO of the Center for Wildlife Studies, is a wildlife ecologist whose research focuses on how animals respond to human impacts and environmental change. His work has taken him from national parks in the United States to research institutions around the world, using innovative tools like stable isotope analysis and wildlife forensics to answer critical conservation questions.

Driven by a passion for applied science, Dr. Hopkins works closely with wildlife agencies and conservation partners to ensure research findings inform real-world management and policy decisions. His studies have advanced our understanding of wildlife behavior, habitat relationships, human-wildlife interactions, and the conservation of species ranging from black bears to turtles.

At the Center for Wildlife Studies, Dr. Hopkins helps fulfill a mission of making science and conservation tools accessible to the people working to solve today's environmental challenges.

We're grateful to have educators and researchers like Jack leading the next generation of conservation science.
