Signup for YES Tree Planting Project !
Help us bring new life to the landscape at YES! This collaborative project between Yarmouth Community Services (YCS), Yarmouth Elementary School (YES), Frank Knight Foundation, Royal River Conservation Trust, Yarmouth Tree Advisory Committee (YTAC), and Yarmouth Climate Action Board (YCAB) aims to reforest 2–3 acres of land behind the new YES gym impacted by recent construction. Volunteers will help students plant native trees, perennials, and grasses to restore habitat, improve biodiversity, and support outdoor education opportunities for students. No experience necessary—just bring your energy, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and help us grow a greener future for Yarmouth!

Wednesday, May 21st, Surveying Invasives Training
Wondering how you can help restore the Royal River’s natural beauty? Join neighbors from Yarmouth and nearby towns on May 21st at 5 PM in the Royal River Park for a training session on how to survey riverbanks for invasive plants—led by Chad Hammer, Dept. of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry. Survey data will inform efforts to manage & reduce invasive plants along the Royal River in the Elm St. dam impoundment. In case of rain, we’ll meet at the Log Cabin (196 Main St, Yarmouth). No canoe or kayak needed for the training session. *Please Note* Before the meeting, participants must create an account with iMapInvasives.org and download the app on their smartphone. The app helps identify invasive plants and records their locations.

We were the fiscal sponsor for the Midcoast Woodbank, they worked with us to create the Maine Wood Banks to create a statewide network and NOW the state is considering legislation to support woodbanks and a statewide network! We are glad we could help get us to this point! Using trees that need to come down in our community to keep neighbors warm while planting new trees just makes so much sense.
