Our Mission:
Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with the goal of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters.

Underhound Railroad is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN: 47-1531047 volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abused and neglected dogs. Underhound Railroad has now grown to include rescue communities in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah. With our focus on rural areas where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to fi

nd rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional and behavioral needs are tended to, and transportation as well as a loving foster family are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

Today is a good excuse to celebrate all the dogs who make life a little better just by being themselves. The goofy ones, the couch potatoes, the troublemakers, the snuggle bugs, and the ones who somehow manage to steal your whole heart. ❤️

At Underhound Railroad, we get to see just how special these dogs are every day. Some are still waiting for their furever homes, while others are already living the life they deserve. Either way, every single one is worth celebrating. 🎉

After 1 year and 4 months of waiting, Elle has finally found her furever home!

When Elle came to Underhound Railroad, she was heartworm positive and had spent far too long in a shelter. Today, she's healthy, loved, and exactly where she belongs.

Her family says she's settling in wonderfully and loves being the center of attention. Whether she's spending time with her favorite humans or relaxing for a Netflix night, Elle is soaking up every minute of her new life. Happy tails Elle! ❤️🏠

Looking for a loyal best friend who loves to cuddle just as much as he loves to play? Bruno is ready to meet you!

At 6 years old, Bruno is the perfect balance of fun and easygoing. This handsome 60lb boy has an adorable floppy ear, a contagious smile, and a heart full of love. He may not be lap sized, but don't tell him that. 😄 His favorite place is right beside his people on the couch.

Bruno is looking for a home where he can truly shine. He would be happiest as the only dog, soaking up all the love and attention from his family. While he has enjoyed supervised playtime with easygoing female dogs who respect his space, he doesn't need a canine companion to be happy. What Bruno really wants is a family to call his own.

Because of his size and playful enthusiasm, Bruno would do best with children 10 years and older.

Bruno has waited far too long for someone to choose him. He's ready for a lifetime of adventures, snuggles, and unconditional love with a family that will love him for the amazing dog he is.

Bruno's adoption fee has been generously sponsored!

Bruno is currently being fostered in South Carolina and can be transported along the East Coast to his furever home.

Bella has come such a long way. After being abandoned in North Carolina, she received all the love and TLC she needed before she was ready to find her furever family. We're so excited to share that Bella was adopted by one of our wonderful repeat adopters and is now enjoying life in Maine! She's settling in beautifully, soaking up all the love, and never says no to a good belly rub. Happy tails Bella! 🏠❤️

Father's Day may be over, but Bruno is still hoping his perfect match is out there. 💙🐾

While many families spent yesterday celebrating together, Bruno spent another day waiting for a family of his own.

He's loyal, loving, and always ready to be by your side through life's adventures. The only thing missing is someone to call his own.

Looking for a walking buddy? Chief is ready to clock in! 🕜❤️🐾

This handsome guy has received professional leash training and continues to work on his skills every day. He loves getting out to explore and enjoys spending time with his people, whether it's a neighborhood stroll, a trip to the park, or a weekend adventure.

When the walk is over, Chief is happy to trade adventure for relaxation. He's a big fan of comfy beds, quality cuddle time, and simply being near his favorite humans.

At 6 years old, Chief is past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of fun, personality, and love to share. He's been waiting patiently for a family to call his own, and we know his perfect match is out there.

📅🐾 Last year, Chief won a spot in our rescue calendar, and now that his month has finally arrived, he's flashing his signature smile and hoping it brings him a little extra luck.

Chief has been waiting patiently for his furever family, and we can't imagine a better time for someone to fall in love with this handsome boy. He’s goofy, affectionate, loves a good game of fetch, and has a way of making everyone around him smile. 😁

Could June be the month Chief finally finds the home he's been dreaming of? 🏡✨ We sure hope so.

Until then, he'll keep being the happy, lovable, toy-chasing good boy we all know and adore. 💙🐶

Nolan found his way back to the rescue through no fault of his own, and while we were surprised this cute little guy didn’t get much interest after being returned, it turns out there was a reason for that all along.

His foster mom quickly realized Nolan was already home. He became her little Velcro dog, always close by and completely in love with his big doggie brothers too.

Now officially part of the family, Nolan has a lifetime of adventures, cuddles, and love ahead of him. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy. Happy tails Nolan! 🏠❤️
