Our Mission:
Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with the goal of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters.

Underhound Railroad is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN: 47-1531047 volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing homeless, abused and neglected dogs. Underhound Railroad has now grown to include rescue communities in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah. With our focus on rural areas where shelters are overflowing with abandoned dogs waiting to fi

nd rescue, our network of Underhound volunteers work hard to prevent undeserved deaths, see that medical, emotional and behavioral needs are tended to, and transportation as well as a loving foster family are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

📅🐾 Last year, Chief won a spot in our rescue calendar, and now that his month has finally arrived, he's flashing his signature smile and hoping it brings him a little extra luck.

Chief has been waiting patiently for his furever family, and we can't imagine a better time for someone to fall in love with this handsome boy. He’s goofy, affectionate, loves a good game of fetch, and has a way of making everyone around him smile. 😁

Could June be the month Chief finally finds the home he's been dreaming of? 🏡✨ We sure hope so.

Until then, he'll keep being the happy, lovable, toy-chasing good boy we all know and adore. 💙🐶

Nolan found his way back to the rescue through no fault of his own, and while we were surprised this cute little guy didn’t get much interest after being returned, it turns out there was a reason for that all along.

His foster mom quickly realized Nolan was already home. He became her little Velcro dog, always close by and completely in love with his big doggie brothers too.

Now officially part of the family, Nolan has a lifetime of adventures, cuddles, and love ahead of him. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy. Happy tails Nolan! 🏠❤️

Wishing everyone a safe and peaceful Memorial Day. ❤️🐾

Chief has been enjoying a nice mix of playtime, walks, and well earned naps this weekend. He’s always up for an adventure, but he definitely appreciates a cozy place to recharge after. 💙

Chief is available for adoption and would love a furever family to spend weekends like this with.

Happy National Rescue Dog Day 🐾💙

Today, we celebrate the dogs who got a second chance and the people who made that possible. From scared strays to beloved family members, every rescue story starts with someone saying “yes” to helping.

Rescue is early mornings, vet visits, transport runs, adoption applications, messy houses, happy tails, and sometimes heartbreak too. But it’s also watching a dog learn what love feels like for the very first time.

To our fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, supporters, and fellow rescue advocates: thank you for helping us change lives, one dog at a time. 🫶

And to the dogs still waiting... your people are out there. ❤️

Tinkerbell is taking her recovery very seriously… especially the part about resting on the couch and collecting extra attention. 🩹🐾💖

After hurting her paw, this sweet girl is now on antibiotics and pain medication and being cared for by her foster family. Cone aside, Tinkerbell is still the same loving, loyal cuddlebug she’s always been. ☺️

This long timer has received professional training, continues working on her skills in foster care, and is more than ready to find a furever family to spoil her through life’s little bumps along the way. ✨

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms out there - especially the dog moms, foster moms, adopters, and volunteers who open their hearts and homes to dogs like Chief. 💖🐾

Chief is still waiting for a furever family of his own, but in the meantime he’s soaking up all the love and cozy moments he can get. We know his perfect match is out there somewhere.

🎉 We are excited to announce that for the third year in a row, our amazing Underhound Railroad volunteer WINTER PAGE is raising money for our rescue dogs in partnership with Pier 1 Pizza & Pub in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and with Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

For the entire month of May, for every dog-themed specialty shot sold, Pier 1 Pizza is donating $1, and Tito’s is matching every dollar up to $500. 🐾

And on May 12th, head over to Pier 1 Pizza for Winter’s Birthday Millennial Trivia Night, where she’ll be donating ALL of her tips straight to the rescue! Wow! Underhound Railroad is honored to have such generous supporters ❤🐾🥹

Chief felt so loved for his birthday! 🎉🐶

Thank you to everyone who sent gifts from his wishlist. He received some amazing goodies including his Lambchop stuffie, a bag of food, and a cot (pictured), plus treats, a Kong, and a ball. 💙 We don’t know who all the gifts came from, but we truly appreciate every bit of support.

His foster is especially excited about the cot and has already been working on "place" and "break" commands with him. We can’t wait to share videos soon of Chief showing off his new skills! 🐾

Chief is still available for adoption and would love a family of his own to keep learning and growing with. 🏡

Bruno is bringing full Dino-Might energy 🦖 in his muscle tee… and somehow still waiting for his furever home. 💛🏠

At 65lbs, this lovable goof is all about snuggles and a good play session. With one ear up and one halfway flopped, his iconic look makes him impossible not to smile at. 😁

Bruno loves car rides, toys, treats, and claiming his spot on the couch right next to you. He’s house trained, crate trained, and ready to bring big love (and a whole lot of personality) into your life.
