This season has been a wonderful one for EMLI, and we’re looking ahead to the New Year with hope, energy, and excitement.

🎉 Exciting News! Family Math is Coming to 2 Walker Street, Building # 3, Westbrook! 🎉
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Family Math, a fun, hands-on program designed to help young children (ages 4–5) build early math confidence—together with their families!
Beginning November 6, 2025. For all families living in Avesta Housing our neighborhood can join us for weekly sessions full of games, stories, and activities that make learning math joyful and meaningful.
Family Math is more than a class—it’s a community. Families share a meal, connect with teachers and volunteers, and discover simple, playful ways to bring math learning into everyday life.
📅 When: Thursday’s 4:30 – 5:30 pm]
📍 Where: 2 Walker Street, Building # 3 (Community Room)
🍽️ What to Expect: Fun learning, family time, and dinner together!

Hello and good afternoon EMLI families!

Another great week has passed! At the Hillview/Montello location this week, we learned new shapes and the difference between squares and circles. During class, we did plenty of fun learning activities with the students and their families! Our teacher used books and physical examples of squares and circles.

Every family and student is doing remarkably well, and we cannot wait to continue to keep learning! See you next week!

Hello EMLI families!

Thank you for yet another amazing week! At the Hillview location this week, we did plenty of work with shapes, counting, and our new topic: prepositions! We used a parachute and other objects to demonstrate concepts like in, out, under, over, and more! All of our EMLI kids and families had so much fun learning with these activities. Thank you to everyone for another brilliant week of EMLI!

Our students at Montello Elementary have just begun learning about the difference between a circle and a sphere, as well as continuing to reinforce their counting skills and math phrases. We are so proud of them!

We would also like to thank our new teacher Samuel Hopkins for all of the amazing work he is doing!

Would you like to give your child a head start in learning math and language skills? The Early Math and Language Initiative (EMLI) has opened a new location in the Greater Portland area!

EMLI offers the Family Math program to help children aged 4-5 years prepare for kindergarten. This is an excellent program that families and children love - see what one parent has to say.

Hello EMLI families! Welcome back to another school year of family math and learning. EMLI is returning for the school year at 4 locations this year and we are so excited to continue our mission to make math more accessible for all children!

-What is EMLI?

EMLI delivers evidence-based intervention programs for families from under-resourced communities to encourage early math and language skills. The 16-week, two-generation Family Math program is for Pre-K children aged 4–5, to prepare them for kindergarten.

Build a Positive Attitude Towards Math
Take Home Books, Materials, and Activities to Work with the Child
