It’s the end of an era at Points North, and the beginning of an exciting new one. Join us in a round of applause for Ben Fowlie, Founder and Artistic Director of the Camden International Film Festival and co-Founder of the Points North Institute, as he takes the next step in his career. 👏👏👏👏👏

"After twenty incredible years building this organization from the ground up, I have decided it's the right time for me to step down," said Fowlie. “Leading our efforts to establish a home for independent documentary film, while collaborating with so many inspiring filmmakers and partners, has been an honor. I am excited about my next chapter, and look forward to witnessing Points North’s extraordinary staff and board build on its strong foundation and flourish for decades to come.”

We wouldn’t be anywhere without Ben’s vision, leadership, and dedication. Here are just a few highlights from the last two decades of building and leading CIFF and Points North. Stay tuned for more information on how we’ll be honoring him at the 20th festival, running September 12-15 in Camden and Rockland, ME.

A few weeks ago, we collaborated with Recovery Connections of Maine to host a night of music, poetry, and film about recovery at the Franco Center. It was a special evening of storytelling and connection after a particularly difficult time in the Lewiston community. Our Recovery in Maine program is honored to partner with organizations and individuals who share our commitment to breaking the stigma around substance use disorder and ensuring that no one feels alone in their recovery journey, whatever it may look like.

Stay tuned for more information on our next event on January 21, 2024 at 1pm in Waterville.

We continue to expand the innovative and filmmaker-centered ways we support nonfiction storytellers—by providing travel and accommodations to all CIFF feature directors, by extending mentorship to our Artist Program Fellows, and by increasing the grants going into the hands of filmmakers with works-in-development. In the next year, we will distribute over $400,000 to filmmakers—an achievement we share with our community of supporters, whose generous contributions make this possible.

Your December gift to Points North will be matched by a generous donor, up to $50,000! Please consider giving to our Annual Fund today. We are grateful for your support!
