In 1989, Anne Gioia’s four year old daughter Katherine was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and began her treatment at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. After Katherine’s untimely death, Anne, her sister Donna and 50 of their friends and business partners joined together to raise funds and public awareness for Roswell Park. In 1991, the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation was established to formally manage all donations to Roswell Park. Today, the Alliance Foundation has contributed over $455 million to promising lifesaving research, treatment and prevention programs, while supporting the psychosocial needs of patients and families touched by cancer. Funds raised by the community through events and programs are a critical component of the Alliance Foundation’s ability to continue to give hope to cancer patients.
