In late 2019, after receiving a diagnosis of cancer, John found himself at Dana-Farber where his care team explained that he had large B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, an aggressive form of blood cancer.
“They outlined how they were going to treat me, which gave me great assurance. Julio, the lead nurse, told me I was being treated by the All-Star team and that they were going to cure me. Julio was right,” John remembers.
After three rounds of chemotherapy, John’s scans showed no signs of cancer. He completed his treatment and now returns to Dana-Farber for semi-annual blood tests and exams as he “continues to live the dream,” he says.
As a way to give back, John and his wife, Sally, created a charitable gift annuity (CGA), which allowed them to make a meaningful gift to Dana-Farber while ensuring they had a steady stream of income through their lifetimes. “Making a gift through a CGA is a small way for our family to say, ‘thank you for saving my life,’” says John. “To everyone who has donated, we can never repay you, but we can join you in supporting the Dana-Farber team as they kindly and professionally work hard to treat those of us afflicted with this life-threatening disease.”
