Maren was diagnosed with leukemia the day after her 8th birthday.

“Cancer has been unexpected, lifechanging, and so, so hard. But there have also been many moments of joy and beauty. We’ve experienced kindness, we’ve been grateful and disappointed at the same time. We’ve been scared and hopeful.”

When Ricky died in 2005 at just 11 years old, we made a commitment to keep walking, keep fundraising, and keep giving back so that one day a cure can be found.”

“My 12-year-old son, Andrew, asked if we could do something to give back during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. He wanted to help the people who helped me while I was going through treatment. Walking the Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber became our way of standing with others facing cancer and giving back to the care team that supported our family.”

“We walk to celebrate and remember two very important and precious people in our family. Both had the same cancer, but each had their own journey.”

“Richard, my brother, was diagnosed with advanced tongue and throat cancer caused by human papilloma virus in 2010. He fought a courageous battle for 14 years, including chemo, radiation, and multiple surgeries. His team at Dana-Farber gave us those extra years with him. What a gift!”

“In 2015, my husband, Marshall, was diagnosed with the exact same cancer. Luckily, his was not as advanced and he was treated with cutting-edge robotic surgery by the highly skilled doctors at Dana-Farber. Marshall has been cancer-free for over ten years.”

This Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, we’re reminded of the strength of community. Thanks to participants like Matt, families, including his own, are finding hope and healing through every step of the Jimmy Fund Walk for Dana-Farber.

“My wife was 20 weeks pregnant with our first child when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The second half of her pregnancy became something we never could have imagined, but the care and support we received from Dana-Farber was unbelievable. I was too weak to walk in 2024, so I made it my goal in recovery to be there in 2025. Starting Chambers Champs and walking alongside 15 teammates, with my wife Katie, our daughter Charlotte, and my family by my side, meant everything to me. It was a powerful reminder of how far I’d come.”
