SEPTEMBER 2026 | Where are we now?

Over the past couple of months, we've started work with two new Strategic Growth Advisory (SGA) clients in Atlanta, Georgia, and Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil, welcomed six African housing developers to our second Chrysalis cohort, and are starting work to design a housing finance product in Vanuatu, building on our previous work from 2024.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ In Atlanta, we're supporting a private developer with overall organizational growth and building a financial feasibility model for part of the Atlanta Civic Center master plan redevelopment.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท In downtown Sรฃo Paulo, we're supporting a real estate company to scale their operations in retrofitting historic commercial buildings into residential apartments.

๐ŸŒ The Chrysalis Housing Impact Accelerator kicks off next week in Nairobi! Six companies from Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Africa will be spending the next five months with us, engaging in hands-on training and coaching to become investor-ready so they can scale sustainable housing solutions across the continent.

Across the US, faith-based organizations are repurposing their underutilized land or vacant buildings to build affordable housing.

To assess the financing resources, barriers, and unmet capital needs affecting faith-based housing initiatives, Enterprise Community Partners commissioned a capital study to examine how houses of worship can develop or redevelop underutilized land for affordable housing, and to identify the financial tools, policy changes, and capacity-building support needed to make projects viable.

Last month, AHIโ€™s Anya Brickman Raredon and Shweta Sundar conducted extensive fieldwork in Detroit and Cleveland with local partners Detroit Future City and the United Church of Christ Church Building & Loan Fund. Through interviews and focus groups with faith-based organizations, developers, capital providers, and public-sector officials, we explored the opportunities and barriers facing faith-based affordable housing development. We visited several neighborhoods and sites to understand the housing conditions, development models, and community contexts shaping these efforts.

Next, we will combine our fieldwork findings with market data to assess the development potential of vacant and underused faith-owned land, develop illustrative capital stacks, and identify key financing and capacity gaps. These findings will inform broader financing and policy recommendations and help Enterprise determine how it can most effectively support faith-based housing initiatives.
