Don’t miss the Bach birthday festivities at First Lutheran this Saturday!

(In case you hadn’t heard, we have had to postpone our own traditional Bach birthday spring benefit, as Old West Church is sorting out some electrical issues in the building. We are hoping to present Fred Jodry in November instead).

Will you be joining us on Saturday for the Boston Bach Birthday Bash?

First Lutheran Church of Boston and BAGO is co-hosting an all-day musical extravaganza from 9am through 5pm. Suggested donation $25. Stay all-day or pop in for a program or two.

The morning program will include:
9am Jonathan Wessler will present Bach Concerto Transcriptions on the organ
10am Young People's Concert presenting various Bach works
10:40am Savannah Curro on the organ
11:35 Hear the two "new" Bach works plus a Birthday Hymn Sing

Noontime German lunch - Tickets $20/$10 (for sale at the door)

Louise Mundinger is Music Director at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston, where she serves as organist, conducts the Cathedral’s Choral Scholars, and convenes bi-weekly meetings for musicians from the Diocese of Massachusetts. She is currently leading efforts to restore the Cathedral's pipe organs. (Stay tuned.)

She studied at New England Conservatory with Yuko Hayashi and Christa Rakich, and Valparaiso University with William Eifrig and Philip Gehring. With Yuko, Louise spent many hours at Opus 55 learning to hear the music underneath the notes.

A recipient of the Frank Huntington Beebe Award, Louise studied organ performance with Zsigmond Szathmáry in Freiburg, Germany, and has performed concerts in both France and Germany. She was a prizewinner in the San Anselmo Organ Improvisation Competition and has received commissions from the American Guild of Organists, the American Composers Forum (Faith Partners Program), and the Diocese of Massachusetts, among others. Her writing has appeared in The American Organist and Musforum.

Louise was awarded the Talbot Baker Teaching Award at Milton Academy in 2008, where she facilitated a biennial music exchange with L’École de Musique de Persan (France) for over 20 years, supported in part by the Florence Gould Foundation. Dedicated to expanding audiences for organ music, she strives to make music impactful for listeners—“I heard that!” is the response she hopes to inspire.

A past Dean of the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (BAGO), and current chair of the BAGO organ library committee, she also directed the AGO’s National New Music Committee for six years, overseeing four national composition competitions and the distribution of $20,000 in annual funding.

Join us tomorrow Tuesday July 15 at 8 pm for an all J.S. Bach program played by Andrew Sheranian!

Since 2010, Andrew Sheranian has been Organist and Master of Choristers at the Parish of All Saints, Ashmont (Episcopal) in Boston, a church known for its commitment to excellence in liturgy and music. His duties at Ashmont include recruiting, training, and conducting the choir, as well as playing the parish’s two pipe organs: C.B. Fisk Opus 103 of 1995 and Skinner Opus 708 of 1929, the latter installed in 2015 during Mr. Sheranian’s tenure. He is also organist on staff at The College Church of Seventh-Day Adventists in Lancaster, MA, and at the Parish of St. Ignatius of Loyola (RC) in Chestnut Hill. Prior to Ashmont, Mr. Sheranian served seven years as Organist and Choirmaster at Christ’s Church in Rye, New York. Mr. Sheranian holds degrees in organ performance from New England Conservatory and Yale University, and as a student held positions at the Parish of All Saints in Boston, and Christ Church in New Haven. As a recitalist, Mr. Sheranian has performed at major venues throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. In late spring of this year, he concluded a tour of Sweden and the United Kingdom with the performance at Westminster Abbey in London. A lifelong disciple of Johann Sebastian Bach, Mr. Sheranian is the founding director of The Bach Project, a baroque ensemble of instrumentalists and singers aiming to perform the full spectrum of Bach’s music in performances in the greater Boston area, now in its seventh season. Recent concerts have included such works as the St. John Passion, Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, as well as the Coffee Cantata. He is also in demand as an accompanist, continuo player, guest conductor, teacher, and coach; and has worked in Jewish liturgical music for the past twenty years.
