Simply Cats is Boise, Idaho's no-kill, cageless feline adoption center. Simply Cats got its start (with just six cats!) as Just Strays Animal Foundation, Inc., in a one room office in 1986. Thanks to a very dedicated group of people, the shelter grew and moved into a larger building. In 2006, the name of the organization was changed to Simply Cats A

doption Center to reflect its feline-only animal population. Meanwhile, plans were underway to construct a brand new state-of the-art adoption center. Thanks to generous donors, the facility was constructed and donated in 2007 and has been our home ever since. Today, Simply Cats Adoption Center shelters over 100 cats and kittens and operates due to the hard work of a small staff and many volunteers. Simply Cats is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that relies on donations for funding.

These cuties are ready to find forever families! 💜 Below are just a few of the 26 adorable kittens currently on our adoption floor, with 15 more joining them later this week.

At Simply Cats, we advocate for kittens to be adopted in pairs or into homes with a compatible, playful young cat. Having a feline companion provides a built-in playmate, helps them burn off energy, and supports healthy social development.

Since kittens learn from other cats, a single kitten may develop habits like biting or playing too roughly with their humans when they don't have a feline friend to help teach appropriate boundaries and social skills. These habits can be cute when they're little, but not so much once they're older.

All of our kittens have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, treated for internal and external parasites, tested for FIV/FeLV, and received age-appropriate vaccinations.

Peter was a stray cat surviving outside, his eyes half closed most of the time. Hunting for his next meal was hard when he kept bumping into things he couldn't quite see. Not because he was sleepy. Not because the sun was too bright. Peter was squinting against a pain that had been part of his daily life for longer than anyone knew.

He eventually found his way to a kind neighbor who noticed something was wrong and started giving him food and a warm place to sleep. She wanted more for him than survival. So she turned to us for help.

When Peter arrived, we diagnosed entropion in both eyes, a painful condition in which the eyelid rolls inward and the eyelashes and surrounding fur rub against the eye with every blink. His right eye was also scarred from past trauma. Together, the two conditions had left him visually impaired and in constant discomfort. To give him relief, both eyes were surgically repaired and he received dental care to treat severe, untreated disease and infection.

Understandably, Peter was shy and cautious at first. He'd spent so long in survival mode that he needed time to trust voices, soft hands, and fresh food. As his discomfort faded, so did his uncertainty. He learned that hands brought pets and ear scritches, and that the other cats in his room weren't competition for his next meal; they were companions. Before long, he was playing and relaxing. Not surviving. Living.

After receiving the care he needed, Peter found his forever home and finally got to live the life he'd been squinting through pain to survive.

Because of people like you, we can say yes to stray cats like Peter who need more than just a safe place to land. Peter's story is a reminder of what happens when a cat is given the chance to heal. There are more cats waiting for that same chance right now.

Your donation today can help us provide the medical care they need and give them the opportunity to discover the happy, healthy life waiting for them.

P.S. The FINAL matching challenge is here! Starting today, The Black Dog will match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000 this ! Here's the catch: The match is available to all participating organizations. Once the the matching funds is claimed, the match is over. That means you must donate sooner, rather than later, to help Simply Cats receive double the donations: donate.clearthesheltersfund.org/page/just-strays-animal

I'm the sweetest lover girl you'll ever meet! I might be a tortie, but I like to think I skipped out on the tortitude. I warm up pretty quickly once someone takes the time to get to know me. I'm here at Simply Cats due to allergies in my previous home.

Once you start petting me, I just can't get enough love and attention! I'll happily give you endless headbutts and lean my whole body into your pets while I purr. I might also be a happy drooler. It’s how I say, "I love you," without words. During my free time, I like to lounge around and snuggle, though I'll surprise you with the occasional zoomie or a good chase after a cat toy.

I'd love a nice home where I can keep coming out of my shell, one headbutt at a time.

Hi, I’m Venus. I’m 15-years-old, and right now, I don’t even weigh five pounds — far too small for a girl my age to be. My little body has been through a lot lately. I have hyperthyroid disease, and I’ll need extra care and attention to help me get healthy again.

But here’s the thing about me: none of that has touched my spirit. I’m still outgoing, still spry, and still so very sweet. I love attention, and I light up every time someone takes the time to give it to me.

I’ve spent a long time getting to this point in my life, and I don’t think it’s fair that my golden years should be anything less than golden. I may be tiny, and I may need a little extra TLC, but I have so much love left to give. All I’m asking for is someone willing to give me the glow-up I deserve, for however many precious years I have left.

If you come visit me, there's a chance you might see makeup on my face. You know why?

Simply, I have so much love to give. I want nothing more than to be close to you, and I will aggressively headbutt your face to show my affection. If you are wearing makeup, I will take it off. (I can't help myself.) If you are not wearing makeup, you'll still get my signature drool on your face.

If you're the kind of person who wants your personal space, I am not the cat for you. I'm looking for someone to be the center of my universe, my protector and my best friend. I will look at you with my big, beautiful green eyes and make you feel like you're the most important person in the world.

Because to me, you are.

I'm in my golden years, and I'm hoping to spend them somewhere golden, too. I want a home where I can settle down and be loved on.

Younger cats are cute, but senior cats, like me, are perfect in their own way.

08/18/2026

Sometimes, all it takes is one person willing to step in to make a difference. When a kind Samaritan learned about a property where a cat colony had grown out of control, she knew she couldn’t simply walk away. After seeing the suffering these cats were facing, she stepped in with guidance from our staff and began humanely trapping them to get them the help they needed. Among the cats from this colony was a tiny three-week-old kitten named Nox.

When Nox arrived in our care, our team found swelling and discharge around a perfectly round hole in his skin, the telltale sign of a bot fly larva burrowed underneath. Poor Nox was clearly uncomfortable and restless.

Our team covered the area with petroleum jelly to cut off the larva’s access to air and bring it closer to the surface. After a couple of tries, they carefully grasped it with tweezers and pulled it free. Once the larva was removed, the relief was immediate and Nox finally settled down. After everything he had been through, he was finally able to relax and fall asleep.

Nox was given antibiotics, and his wound was thoroughly flushed and cleaned before he headed into a foster home. There, he was introduced to another kitten around his age, and the two quickly became little best friends. After such a difficult start, Nox now has a safe place to rest, recover, and simply be a kitten.

But Nox wasn't the only cat who needed help.

About a week later, our foster program welcomed more cats from the same colony: a mama cat with her three five-week-old kittens and her sole surviving 3 month old kitten from a previous litter.

Today, Nox and the other cats have a second chance at a brighter future. A chance to be safe. A chance to heal. And, most importantly, a chance to know what it feels like to be cared for.

It truly takes a village to help cats like Nox. From the person who stepped in to help this colony, the staff who provided guidance, to our veterinary and foster teams, to the people who support our work, every helping hand makes a difference. Please consider making a donation today. Your support helps provide the medical care, food, safe shelter, and the love these cats need to heal and grow.

Starting today, The Black Dog will match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000! This is a shared matching pool across all participating organizations. That means you must donate sooner, rather than later, to help Simply Cats receive double the donations: donate.clearthesheltersfund.org/page/just-strays-animal
