Introducing Bobby! This sweet boy came to IHS as a stray, so we are still learning about him. While with us, we've discovered he can be shy when he first meets you, but his curiosity has a way of getting the best of him. He’ll cautiously explore his surroundings, peek out to see what you’re up to, and then retreat to a cozy spot when he’s ready for a little space.

Bobby is looking for a patient home that will let him take things at his own pace while encouraging his curious side. With time, patience, and plenty of cozy spots to retreat to, we think he’ll continue to blossom into a more confident and comfortable companion.

He has done well with the other kitties he’s met here at the shelter, but since we don’t know his full history with other animals, slow introductions are recommended if he has furry siblings waiting for him at home.

We had 149 animals join their forever homes last week: 102 cats (81 kittens), 43 dogs, 2 rats, 1 rabbit, and 1 guinea pig.

Albert (in the middle) arrived at our Shelter Medical Center as a stray suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection (URI.) He had significant nasal and eye discharge, sneezing/sniffling, poor appetite, dehydration, lethargy, and weight loss. We provided treatment that included fluids, medications to control nausea, pain medication, and antibiotics/antiviral medication. Albert then went to a foster home to heal and soak up some much needed TLC… and ended up never leaving! His foster fell in love and adopted him, making him a permanent member of the family!

We’re getting ready to roll out our schedule for Santa photos AND winter pet photos, and we need your help with one very important decision: Which backgrounds do you prefer?

You’ll be able to book a photo session for your pets, and yes, you can hop in the picture with them too! Sessions can include up to three well-behaved dogs.

What's the best way to start the week? Sharing a ! Brianna sent us this update:

“We wanted to share an update on Rajah, who you previously knew as Slinky. We adopted her last January, and it has been so special to watch her grow and come into her personality over the past year! We originally brought her home to keep our dog Jasper company after he lost his previous dog sibling, but it turns out Rajah needed a non-cat friend too. The two of them have become such a wonderful pair and keep each other company in the sweetest, most calm way.

She has made incredible progress and has turned into such a loving, expressive cat. More than anything, she just wants endless love and attention, and she definitely gets it. Rajah is very food motivated, but she has reached a healthy weight and is much more active now. She loves to run and play, and her current favorite toy is a ping pong ball, which she will chase around like it is the best thing in the world.

She is also very vocal and always lets us know what she wants, whether it is time to play, eat, or curl up on the couch for cuddles. Her personality really shines through in those moments.

We are so grateful to have her in our lives. She is happy, loved, and very much living her best spoiled queen life.

Thank you for bringing her into our lives!”

No school? We’ve got a day full of animals, fun, and learning!

Looking for something special for your animal-loving kiddo to do when school is out? Our one-day Humane Education Camps are a great way to spend the day at Idaho Humane Society, making new friends, learning about animals, and enjoying hands-on activities.

Our upcoming camp dates for kids ages 8-13:

Thursday, October 8 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 15 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 3 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Whether it’s a day off from school or you’re looking for a fun and meaningful activity, we’d love to have your young animal lover join us!

Our wonderful volunteers will be collecting pet food TODAY at these Fred Meyer locations! Stop by, say hello, and donate to help keep pets fed this holiday season.

9am to 1pm: Overland/Five Mile - 10751 W Overland Rd
3pm to 5pm: Glenwood - 5425 Chinden Blvd

This tiny little darling is Phoebe. She was found as a stray and brought to our Shelter Medical Center with a significant wound underneath her chin, where the skin and underlying tissue had separated from the area beneath it. Our veterinary team surgically repaired the injury and monitored her closely as she healed.

At her follow-up exam, Phoebe’s sutures had fallen out and her wound had healed beautifully. There was still a small amount of thickening along the left side of her jaw, but thankfully, there was no exposed bone or other obvious complications.

After everything she had been through, Phoebe didn’t have to wait long to find her happily ever after. She joined the adoption floor and was adopted into her new home that very same day! We couldn’t be happier for this sweet little girl.
