Right now, $16,520 is waiting to be put to work for salmon recovery.

Our board members have committed to match every gift up to $16,520 through June 21 – that’s $33,000 if we meet their match!

This is a powerful opportunity to double your impact and help:

🏞 Stream restoration projects
🌲 Volunteer stewardship events
🐟 Salmon science education for 4th graders

So far, we are 2/3 of the way to our goal - we have 15 days left to raise $5,273!

Let’s not leave a single dollar on the table. Donate today at www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=YHZ46ADYV34X2

New crew tradition unlocked: Ride your bike to work day! πŸš΄πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΄

Getting to start the day together, swap our cars for two wheels, and keep things a little more eco friendly makes the work day even better. We're looking forward to more days like this!

Our nature preschool class took a drive out to Tennant Lake to discover a new view! πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

The students enjoyed climbing the large steps up the tower and looking down at the lake below. We spotted geese and a hawk flying above, and heard a Downy woodpecker next to the base of the tower. The group walked along the boardwalk, stopping to observe the water striders and watch dragonflies whiz by. πŸΎπŸ¦…πŸŒ²

At Keystone Nature Preschool, our open-ended discovery play allows students to connect with nature, noticing and taking in the world around them. Our teachers enjoy fostering curiosity and fun in everything we do!

Thank you to the 20 friends and family who honored Mike and Elaine McRory at the Day of Service on NSEA's campus!

The McRory's spent countless hours at NSEA developing and maintaining our beautiful campus, providing a functional space for staff, board, and community to lead salmon recovery work in Whatcom County. Both Mike and Elaine were a tireless force. They would have been so proud to see everyone rolling up their sleeves and working for salmon!

We plan to host this event annually to honor the McRory's. We know that several friends, family, and supporters were not able to make it but expressed their appreciation and excitement - let's carry their story, passion, and dedication forward together to make our world a better place. πŸ’™

Your gift will help to:
🐟 Remove six fish passages barriers improving access to 7.6 miles of habitat
🌲 Host 60 volunteer stewardship events
✏️ Provide 1,400 4th grade students salmon science field trips

Help us unlock the full match and build momentum for the year ahead.

to the mighty crew of volunteers that joined NSEA and Whatcom Conservation District in Ferndale this morning along Schell Creek! They cleared 3 cubic yards of invasive Himalayan blackberry and picked up litter and dog p**p from the open space along the creek.

Schell creek is a tributary of the Lummi River and home to coho and chum salmon. The surrounding area is a productive wetland that stores water and provides habitat to much wildlife, especially birds. πŸ¦†πŸ¦…πŸ¦ Today featured red wing black birds, yellow warblers, Canada geese, mallards, bald eagles, and great blue herons!

The riparian habitat surrounding Schell Creek was planted by NSEA and supported by the Rotary Club of Ferndale nearly 30 years ago. Now, the trees and shrubs surrounding the creek act as a sponge to filtrate runoff and pollutants before they reach the creek and impact water quality. Special shout out to the Rotary Club of Ferndale who provided a native plant giveaway for volunteers today!

We are taking a short break and will be back at it in June with Bellingham Parks. We also have a schedule of small-scale summer opportunities that you can learn more about at www.n-sea.org/stream-stewards (or click the link in our bio).
