The Sophia Way

The Sophia Way The Sophia Way is a place of hope and change for women. The Sophia Way envisions a community where all women have a place to call home.

The organization supports women on their journey from homelessness to safe and stable living. Our shelters give them a warm, safe space to take a shower, rest, and sleep, and nourishing food. Following the guiding principles of trauma-informed care, case managers partner with the women to support their overall wellbeing – physical, mental, and financial. Since 2008, The Sophia Way has served and supported more than 5,000 women and helped hundreds find their homes.

For nearly a year, Anna lived in an aging car after medical issues and losing her job cost her everything. Every day was about finding gas, keeping the car running, and finding a safe spot to park. Then she connected with our Vehicle Outreach Navigator. Together, they built a housing plan and completed multiple housing applications. Despite repeated rejections, Anna kept going until she was finally approved for housing. Thank you for helping us write her story of new beginnings.

Today marks 6 years of Helen’s Place 💙

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor its namesake, Helen Leuzzi, whose vision and compassion started a movement that continues to provide hope, dignity, and support to women experiencing homelessness on the Eastside.

Though Helen is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through The Sophia Way, the organization she founded, and the many lives touched by the work she began. We are honored to carry her mission forward.

It's been four years since women first opened the doors to their own cottages – a place with privacy, independence, and the simple comfort of cooking their own meals again.

The Cottages, The Sophia Way's transitional housing program for women 62+, give residents two years of stable housing paired with case management and wraparound support — time to rebuild, heal, and plan for what's next.

That kind of stability changed everything for Evelyn. At 82, after caring for a close friend until the end of their life, she found herself without a home. She called shelter after shelter before finding a bed at Helen's Place – and later, an opening at The Cottages. Today she has a safe place to call home while she works toward permanent housing, and the confidence that comes with knowing she's not alone.

We are so grateful to the Carrie Lewith Trust for donating and managing the cottages – helping to support women like Evelyn with dignity and stability as they rebuild their lives.

We recently had the chance to welcome BECU managers from across the state as volunteers here at The Sophia Way. From sorting and organizing donations to creating kits specifically for our Vehicle Outreach Coordinator to use in the community, they were terrific! We are incredibly grateful for their time, enthusiasm and support for the women we serve.

For women at The Sophia Way, snacks can provide a sense of normalcy in uncertain times. A favorite treat, something to enjoy between meals, or a quick bite when hunger strikes can bring a little comfort to the day.

Our shelters rely on community donations to keep shelves stocked with snacks and other everyday essentials. This , you can help by shopping our wish list and sending items directly to The Sophia Way.

Join us for an evening of hope, warmth, and stability.

"Tonya, you can come sign your lease in the morning." That's the moment everything changed for Tonya - a release from years of worry and exhaustion, and the start of a life she could finally call stable. She shared her story at Coming Home 2025, and this November, we're inviting you to help make that same moment possible for another woman still finding her way home.

Coming Home is our signature fundraising evening of connection, purpose, hope, and a room full of people who believe stability changes everything.

This year's prize sneak peek includes a California vacation stay, a London getaway, and airline tickets, with more to come! We're also thrilled to welcome Seattle emcee Sasha Summer Cousineau to help share the journeys of the women you support.

Host a table and bring your friends, neighbors, or colleagues together for the evening.

Your presence and generosity help open the door to stability for even more women. We'd love to have you with us.

Baked with love💜

When we received a donation of cake kits, we invited our Support Network volunteers to turn them into cakes for women staying in our shelters. The response was immediate. One volunteer baked and delivered a cake the very next day.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their time and talents to make these cakes. Homemade desserts provide a thoughtful reminder that someone cares. Your kindness brings comfort, celebration, and joy, one slice at a time.

Huge thanks to the West Monroe team for spending their Day of Service at The Sophia Way's Donation Center! They sorted, counted, and organized around 340 donated items from I Support The Girls: bras, sports bras, underwear, shirts, tank tops, athletic wear, sweatshirts, and jackets. Each item was carefully grouped by size so staff can quickly find clothing for women that fits comfortably and restores dignity. Thank you, West Monroe Partners, for your time, energy, and heart!
