Today is GiveBIG — a chance to support the organizations and causes that strengthen our community.

We invite you to stand behind the men and women who stand ready for us every day: Bellevue firefighters and paramedics.

The Bellevue Fire Foundation funds critical needs beyond the city budget — providing lifesaving rescue equipment, technology, and flexible support for urgent unfunded needs. These are not “nice to have” resources — they are essential tools for modern emergency response.

Our goal today is to raise $10,000 to ensure our first responders are equipped, supported, and ready — no matter what comes next.

Every donation makes an impact. Thank you for supporting those who run toward danger to keep our community safe. ❤️🚒

💙 Grateful for partners who show up when it matters most.

Because of the generosity of DoorDash Community Credits, the Bellevue Fire CARES Team can respond in real time when our community members need help the most—meeting urgent needs with dignity, compassion, and speed.

When an elderly woman returned home to find it had been taken over and stripped of essentials, CARES was able to help her rebuild—providing groceries, bedding, and basic household items so she could safely return home.

When a medically fragile resident was too sick to leave her home, CARES delivered groceries, medications, and even food for her dog—helping her focus on healing.

And after a recent storm, when an unhoused neighbor lost critical belongings to high winds, CARES quickly provided a new sleeping bag—offering warmth and protection during freezing conditions.

These are just a few examples of how flexible support can stabilize lives, reduce harm, and bring comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments.

✨ Thank you, DoorDash, for helping us meet people where they are—when they need it most.

2,000 firefighters. 69 flights. 1,311 steps. Nearly 70 pounds of gear. All for a CURE for blood cancers.

What an incredible day at the 2026 Seattle Firefighter Stair Climb.

A huge congratulations to Bellevue Firefighter Miles Farrow Johnson, who took 1st place overall with the fastest time — racing up 69 flights (1,311 steps) in full bunker gear in an astonishing 11 minutes and 53.66 seconds. An incredible accomplishment. 💪

Proud of all 22 Bellevue firefighters who took on this challenge. Special congratulations to Bellevue Fire Chief Dave Tait and former Bellevue Fire Chief — now Kalispell Fire Chief — Jay Hagen for making it to the top in full gear (nearly 70 pounds). They climbed 1,311 steps and 788 feet of vertical elevation with admirable times, all in the name of finding a cure for blood cancers.

It was also a wonderful experience for Bellevue Fire Foundation President & CEO Laura Mathers to volunteer alongside Natasha Grossman, Bellevue Fire Department’s C.A.R.E.S. Program Manager, on the 73rd floor — congratulating firefighters as they crossed the finish line and helping them remove their gear. It was a fast-paced job and incredibly rewarding.

Firefighters came from across the United States, Canada, and Germany, with 2,000 climbers representing 259 fire departments pushing themselves up the tower for this important cause.

The strength, determination, and camaraderie of the fire service was on full display.

Congratulations to every firefighter who made the climb. 👏

We at the Bellevue Fire Foundation are deeply grateful for Chaplain Mike Ryan’s 23 years of dedicated service to the Bellevue Fire Department and our community.

His steady, compassionate presence during life’s most difficult moments has been a true gift. We are thankful for his meaningful contributions to the Foundation—offering the invocation at our annual breakfast and serving as a panelist to help deepen our understanding of the mental health challenges our firefighters and paramedics face each day. This work has directly supported our commitment to firefighter health and wellbeing.

We join the Bellevue Fire Department in thanking Chaplain Ryan for his humility, compassion, and unwavering support when it mattered most.

Wishing him a healthy and joyful retirement as he begins this next chapter. His impact will continue to inspire us. Thank you, Chaplain Ryan. 💙

We are deeply grateful to DoorDash for their significant donation of Community Credits gift cards. This support is making a meaningful impact for families and individuals facing crisis across our community.

“DoorDash funds are one of the most meaningful tools the Bellevue Fire CARES Team uses to support our community. While the purchases may be simple—a meal, diapers, groceries, or a journal—the impact is profound. These funds allow us to respond in real time, meeting families at the exact moment of need with dignity and compassion. More than a convenience, they are a lifeline—creating moments of relief, stability, and connection when they are needed most.”

Thank you to Salesforce for their generous donation of 100 teddy bears with birth certificates. These bears will offer comfort and emotional support to children experiencing trauma during incredibly challenging moments. Partnerships like this help our firefighters and medics provide care that goes beyond emergency response. 🐻❤️‍🩹
