What an incredible day for civic engagement in Maine!
The inaugural Maine State Civics Bee Championship brought Maine's top middle school civic thinkers to Colby College in Waterville to showcase their civic knowledge, leadership, and ideas for strengthening their communities.
Twenty students from across the state were selected as finalists through a statewide essay competition, and students who advanced to the State Championship competed in a live event testing their understanding of government, history, citizenship, and civic responsibility.
Congratulations to our top three finalists:
Marin L. of Mt. Ararat Middle School β 1st Place and Maine's representative at the National Civics Bee Championship in Washington, D.C. this October
Ryan C. of Mt. Ararat Middle School β 2nd Place
Tristan S. of Rose M. Gaffney School in East Machias β 3rd Place
A special thank you to all of the students who participated, along with their families, educators, judges, volunteers, and partners who made this first-ever Maine State Civics Bee a success.
Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce was proud to partner with the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, Colby College and the City of Waterville, Maine to host this historic event. Funding support was provided through grants from The Civic Trust and Waterville Rotary Noon Club.
Additional sponsorship support came from Walmart, KVCC Kennebec Valley Community College, Bernstein Shur, and Preti Flaherty.
Congratulations again to all of our competitors and best of luck to Marin as they represent Maine on the national stage!
