September is Su***de Prevention month, where we make space for honest conversations about mental health, remind those around us that they are not alone, and share awareness about resources and support available, like the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Su***de death rates in Maine exceed the national average, ranking 13th nationwide according to research from the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention.

This week, su***de prevention experts from across the state gathered on Maine Calling for an important conversation on su***de prevention in Maine, reducing stigma around mental health, and ways to help someone who may be struggling.

“We need environments where education and healing are not treated as separate paths,..." “I know if we can make a difference in just one child’s life, it’s going to be huge,” said Nadeau, an educator with the public school district based in Fort Kent and a creator of the new recovery high school.
The school is the first of its kind in Maine, funded mostly by a small portion of the millions in opioid settlement funds that have flowed to the state in recent years."

Located in Aroostook County and funded mostly by opioid settlement funds, it's the only rural one in the country.

"Maine is launching a mental health network to help local farmers survive the emotional trauma of forever chemical contamination, which threatens the long-term financial and physical health of rural families as well as poisons their soil and water"

State policymakers will use emotional aid and peer mentoring to address the stress of impacted farmers.
