Final reminder: our webinar is happening this Wednesday, May 27 !

“Tenants don’t renew leases because of a certification. They renew because the building feels like somewhere they want to be.”

Join Southface Institute, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and for a 30-minute conversation exploring how sustainability efforts can move beyond reporting and certifications to create spaces people genuinely connect with.

We’ll discuss:
-What tenants actually expect from green buildings in 2026
-How sustainability can strengthen engagement and retention
-What leading buildings are doing differently to make sustainability visible and meaningful onsite

Featuring:
-Ryan Snow, U.S. Green Building Council
-Noémie Turcotte, Alvéole
-Stephen Ward, Southface Institute

Tenants don’t renew leases because of a certification.

They renew because the building feels like somewhere they want to be.

So what’s the gap between a green building… and one tenants actually love?

Join us for a fast-paced, 𝟑𝟎-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 where we unpack what’s working (and what’s not) at the intersection of sustainability, certification, and real tenant experience.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡:
• What tenants actually expect from a green building in 2026
• How to make your certification efforts feel real to the people in your building
• What high-performing buildings are doing differently to drive retention

This is for property managers, facility managers, sustainability leaders, and asset managers who want their sustainability story to actually land with tenants.

We’re especially excited to partner with on this conversation, bringing a unique, nature-based lens to how buildings create meaningful, measurable experiences on-site.

And speaking of bringing sustainability to life…

On May 3, we celebrate Southface’s founding on Sun Day in 1978. This marks 48 years of advancing sustainability through practical solutions that produce lasting impact.

Our story began that day in Woodruff Park, where a group of passionate volunteers gathered for the very first Sun Day, a national call to action for solar energy that reflected a simple truth we still carry forward: meaningful progress starts with committed people working together on practical solutions that create real impact.

From those beginnings, Southface has grown alongside the partners and communities who have shaped our journey, helping turn local ideas into influence felt across Atlanta, the region, and beyond. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has been part of that work.

We’ll carry that spirit forward on May 8 at our Sustainability in Action Roundtable (SART), bringing together local leaders who are tackling today’s challenges and “brightening their corner” through innovation and collaboration.

At Southface Institute, we believe sustainable living should be accessible to all. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Georgia Interfaith Power & Light, Electrify Decatur, the City of Decatur, and Let's Go Electric to offer free virtual workshops on home electrification and energy efficiency.

Join Electrify Decatur at noon on May 5, May 6, or June 3 to learn how electrifying your home can benefit your wallet and the environment. These workshops are designed to provide clear, practical information and connect participants with programs that make electrification affordable and achievable.

Big milestone 🎉

All BIT for Resilient HBCUs Fellows have officially earned their Green Professional (GPRO) Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Essentials Certificate, administered by .

This isn’t just a certificate—it’s a foundation.

Our Fellows from Clark Atlanta University, , Spelman College, , and now have the tools to understand how everyday actions impact building performance - from energy and water to waste and indoor air quality. And as they head into the Fall semester, they’re ready to turn what they’ve learned into real action on their campuses.

Because at the end of the day: buildings don’t save energy, people do.

Earth Day isn’t just a day on the calendar; it’s a reminder that the small decisions we make every day add up.

At Southface, we see this every day through the work of BIT for Resilient HBCUs Fellows across Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morgan State University, Texas Southern University, and Xavier University of Louisiana. From leading workshops to activating simple, repeatable actions around energy, water, waste, and indoor air quality, these students are showing what real, everyday sustainability looks like.

This work is made possible with support from Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF), Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), WSP in the U.S., and Rego.

Because buildings don’t save energy, people do.

So here’s a simple challenge: What’s one action you’ll repeat every day?

Mine: turning off the sink while I soap my hands.
