Happy 30th birthday to the Carolina Climbers Coalition! Without your work and the many many volunteers that make your impact possible, we might not be able to enjoy days like this as often as we do. ❤️

If you’re not already a member, please consider supporting the or your Local Climbing Organization.

A great weekend on Looking Glass via the Nose and Sundial Crack.

Local shout out to our primary donor of the 2025 North Georgia Safe Climbing Initiative!! We were able to successfully raise $2500 via the fundraiser and the event AND our friends at Modern Woodmen are matching that dollar for dollar, for a total of $5000! This money will be put straight into the climbing resources of the Georgia Tech Climbing Club and its many super-good-people collegiate climbers - gear should arrive for them in the fall of 2025! We hope you will rest a bit easier knowing that your contribution and support of our work is making climbing in North Georgia and beyond that much safer. Thanks to everyone that donated, but a special thanks to the fine folks at for ONCE AGAIN supporting local climbers and our community. If you find yourself in need of financial advice, whether that be bill pay or investment portfolios, we hope you’ll trust these folks that have done so much to support our community over the years.

Think of Modern Woodmen when you think of financial advisors! They sure do think of us!

Special thanks, also, to Bennett Stone for providing some bluegrass music! He was great, right?

AND - a heartfelt thanks to Daniel Parkerson for sharing a bit of his extensive local experience.

North Georgia Climbing Fest benefitting the North Georgia Safe Climbing Initiative - Featuring guest speaker Daniel Parkerson 👊🏼

Daniel has been climbing in the SE since before he started college at UNG. He knows our favorite routes and crags all over WNC and NGA better than most. An avid FA’ist, steward, and photographer, Daniel spends much of his free time putting up routes, restoring hardware, and advocating for preservation and access to our wilderness areas. We are excited to give Daniel the microphone on Saturday to share a slide show focusing on the many different situations we may find ourselves in (as SE climbers) building anchors at our local crags and more remote areas. From bushwhacking to the biggest tree you can find, to mussy hooks, to perfectly spaced and oriented hangers and rap rings, Daniel will talk us through some scenarios. It’ll also be fun to see his photos of some killer routes and hard climbing. Let’s hear it for Dan P.!

Daniel will take the stage at about 6:30- 7pm on Saturday. Band will play from 4-6; food/beverages; climbing comp events; movie starts about 7:30-8pm.

See y’all Saturday!

And please, if you have not already, donate to the fundraiser in the link below ✌🏼

I’m happy to report that you can all sleep better knowing that our existence is indeed going to be saved by the next generation. This group of young climbers from Georgia Tech and University of North Georgia are proof that we are in good hands. Thanks for helping us all sleep better, y’all!

Pictures from our “Lead Climbing” clinic at SandRock. We worked from “up to down” starting off in ground school as we studied anchors, cleaning/lowering, clipping hardware and technique, and lead belaying. We then got on some rock utilizing the “mock lead” strategy - everyone got multiple reps on the rock and the belay! Thanks to our teacher, certified guide, and Education Chair, Jeff Mekolites.

It was a great day and a great night. Personal highlight: sitting around the fire late into the night learning from everyone about Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, “plant rot,” and even how to win a firefight in the jungles of Singapore (from a 24 year old veteran of Singapore’s mandatory public service, a sniper, mountaineer with experience in the Himalaya, engineer, and GaTech student) - I don’t think I saw a phone screen ONCE all day.

Y’all, I’m telling you, the kids are alright.
