What does joy look like?

It looks like laughter that rises above difficult circumstances. It looks like friendships, play, and smiles that refuse to be defined by the challenges around them.

In places where hardship is common, joy is still finding a way.

These children remind us every day that joy isn't found in perfect circumstances. It shows up in the middle of ordinary moments, and it's one of our favorite things to witness.

Thank you for helping create places where children can be safe, cared for, and free to simply be kids!

God has a way of preparing the answer before we ever see the need.

On May 1, after nearly two years of prayer, hard work, and delays, we opened our clinic in Eastern DR Congo. We believed it would provide much-needed medical care for vulnerable children and families in a region where access to healthcare is extremely limited.

But God was doing more than we realized.

Already facing the devastation of war, displacement, and extreme hunger, Eastern Congo is now confronting yet another crisis as an Ebola outbreak threatens communities throughout the region.

While our clinic will not directly treat Ebola patients, God had already gone before us. Through relationships built around the clinic, three shipping containers filled with medical supplies are now on their way and will be distributed to hospitals and clinics across the region, helping serve thousands in this critical moment.

What began as a simple step of obedience has become part of a much larger story.

Even in the middle of uncertainty, God is still preparing the way.

Even in the middle of the current Ebola outbreak, the mission of Children’s Refuge continues.

Our teams are still showing up every day to care for vulnerable children with safe shelter, meals, medical support, education, and the love they deserve. In moments of uncertainty, these children need stability and hope more than ever.

Please continue praying for protection over our staff, children, and the communities of DR Congo and Uganda, as we navigate this difficult season together. Your support is helping us continue to provide care, comfort, and safety to children who depend on us each day.

Hope does not stop in a crisis. Neither do we.

Just rescued: Miriam, three weeks old.

Last night, her mother was tragically shot and killed, and in a moment, Miriam’s entire world changed. Today, she is safe in our care.

While her story begins with heartbreaking loss, we believe her future can still be filled with hope, love, and protection. We are committed to surrounding Miriam with the care every child deserves.

Please pray for this precious baby girl as she begins a new chapter of healing and hope. And if you would like to help provide for Miriam’s immediate needs and care, your donation can make a direct impact in her life.

From 3,000 to 30,000 square feet. 🙌

Construction has officially begun at the Precious Kids Center in Kitale, Kenya, a major step forward for more than 130 children with special needs who call this place home.

What was once an overcrowded 3,000 sq. ft. building is becoming a 30,000+ sq. ft. campus designed for children to truly live and thrive, complete with residential spaces, therapy rooms, classrooms, a clinic, and more.

This is more than a building project. This is hope. Thank you for being part of the mission and helping make miracles possible. 🧡

Meet Mary! 🧡

Mary’s journey has been filled with both challenges and so much hope. She first became part of the Children’s Refuge family at just 10 months old while living with her parents in the slum community of Shimo La Tewa. Even as a baby, Mary had the sweetest smile and a joy that could light up a room.

Through medical care, home-based support, and help for her family, Mary was able to receive the care she needed while continuing to grow surrounded by love.

After the loss of her mother following a long illness, Mary’s older sisters stepped in and cared for her while also working hard to finish school. When her sister later left for college, there was no longer anyone at home able to provide the full-time care Mary needed.

Today, Mary is thriving at our children's home, Precious Kids Center, surrounded by people who know her, love her, and are cheering her on every step of the way.

Child sponsorship helps make stories like Mary’s possible by giving children a safe place to belong, consistent care, and hope for a brighter future. If you would like to sponsor Mary, head to www.childrensrefuge.org/sponsor-a-child!

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible makes clear God’s heart for the fatherless.

Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to provide for, protect, and welcome the fatherless, not as an optional act of kindness but as a reflection of His very nature.

Psalm 68:5 declares that God Himself is “a father to the fatherless.”
James 1:27 reminds us that “pure and faultless” faith means caring for orphans and widows in their distress.

At Children’s Refuge, this truth drives everything we do. We believe that to know God’s heart is to care for orphans, and we are committed to living out His call by providing safety, love, and hope for vulnerable children.

Thank you for joining us in this journey. Your prayers, partnership, and belief in this mission help make it possible for children to encounter the love of God and discover a hope that lasts.

With the foundations laid for expansion, we are ready to support our teams across our African campuses as they answer the call to care for more vulnerable children.

Every day, they are stepping in for children who have nowhere else to go. These are the cases others can’t take - children not eligible for reunification or adoption, yet still deeply in need of safety, care, and a place to belong.

The calls keep coming from local officials, pastors, and hospital workers. And every call represents a child.

Our hope is simple: to keep saying “yes” and to remain a safe refuge for more children who need it most.

Join us in this work by becoming a monthly supporter at childrensrefuge.org.
