That's My Child Atlanta

That's My Child Atlanta That's My Child was founded by Charles Lee of Montgomery, AL after realizing a huge need for youth in the community.

Statistically, children from low-income communities are born with disadvantages that hurt their ability to become successful leaders.

Our students had the incredible opportunity to host a panel discussion with the Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools (APS), diving into his vision for the future of education and APS as a whole. πŸ™ŒπŸ“š
We’re so proud of our students for stepping up, asking powerful questions, and leading with purpose! πŸ’¬πŸŽ€βœ¨

β˜•οΈ Our Teens to Work class took another break from the classroom and spent a day with at the Bankhead Coffee shop! CordΓ©, a recent Teens to Work graduate, was on the job and provided us with some insight to his position as a barista. He highlighted some of his favorite aspects of being a barista and shared how his time in the Teens to Work program helped prepare him for his current position. We were even given a short lesson on where coffee beans come from and the factors that contribute to their taste and quality!

πŸ›Έ Thank you to Ms. Kat and Mr. Brad for the hospitality and for partnering with TMC Atlanta. Thank you to Ms. Sabrina and Ms. Nadine ( ) for assisting with transportation to and from the coffee shop.

πŸš€ We had an amazing time and look forward to bringing future classes for a visit!

A few weeks ago, and led a Teen Dating Violence Training for our Teens to Work class. Topics covered during the training included identifying different forms of abuse in relationships, recognizing red flags, setting healthy boundaries, how to deal with bullying, self-care, and much more!

Huge thank you to Ms. Sabrina and Ms. Nadine for leading us through an engaging training & conversation. We look forward to seeing our young scholars cultivate a healthy work/life balance as they continue to grow.

After taking a short break for Independence Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ, we took a break from the class room and stepped into β€œthe cafe” to practice their customer service skills and conflict-resolution with customers & coworkers.

We were also fortunate to have Kiersten Harris join our class as a guest speaker. Ms. Harris shared her experiences as a research marketing consultant, author, and entrepreneur. Before dismissal, she provided each student with a book that has inspired her successes.

Special thank you to Mr. Alan Holmes of the (District 9), , and for aiding with our customer service scenarios. Special thank you to Kiersten for spending time with our class.

A couple of weeks ago, we partnered with the for our first round of mock interviews. Our summer cohort did a good job applying what they learned in the classroom and we are eager to see their progress during round two interviews.

Special thanks to Roy and Gavin for their time and for providing the students with valuable feedback.

The next round of mock interviews are coming up soon and all of our interviewees will be dressed for success!

🧰 During week 2, our Teens to Work class took a break from the classroom and stepped into the Grove Park Community to complete two community service projects in 2 hours for some legacy residents!

πŸͺ΅ After a recent storm, these young ladies had the opportunity to use an axe to chop fallen tree branches into smaller logs, so that they could be moved to the sidewalk for pick up. Both young ladies worked hard, kept safety first, and received high praise for their finished products. πŸ‘

😊 We are grateful to Roy of the for securing tools, safety equipment πŸ₯½, and for operating the chainsaw! We look forward to more opportunities to serve our neighbors and the community.
