June is National Homeownership Month — a time to recognize what owning a home really represents: safety, stability, and a foundation to build wealth that lasts for generations.

Decades of systemic disinvestment put that foundation out of reach for too many families on the historic Westside — the very neighborhoods that helped shape Atlanta's story. We believe your place in the community you love should never be in question.

That's what Home on the Westside is for. If you have live, work, or learn connections to the historic Westside, there's a pathway forward — whether you're renting and ready for long-term stability, preparing to buy your first home, or a legacy homeowner in need of relief from rising property taxes. From down payment assistance to support through our Anti-Displacement Tax Fund, we're here to help you stay.

This Homeownership Month, let's make sure the historic Westside stays home for the people who've always called it that.

ICYMI: Check out a few moments from our Friends of the Westside Celebration at Westside Motor Lounge last month.

Behind every home restored, every legacy resident who stays, and every family putting down roots is a community of friends who believe in this work. You show up. You give. You volunteer. You spread the word. And because you do, the restoration of Atlanta's historic Westside continues to move forward.

This is what friendship looks like — neighbors, donors, and partners standing together for the long haul.

To our Friends of the Westside: thank you for being part of this story.

Another powerful Transform Westside Summit in the books.

This month's conversation, Rooted and Rising: Protecting Our Neighbors, focused on housing stability, displacement prevention, and what it takes to keep longtime residents rooted in the communities they helped shape.

The morning opened with a devotional from Sterling Johnson, Senior Program Officer for Atlanta's Westside at the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, who drew from the story of Nehemiah to remind attendees of the importance of building with community rather than for it.

The conversation continued with Lisa Flowers, Executive Director of HouseProud Atlanta, on the importance of pairing home preservation with education and long-term support so longtime homeowners can understand and protect the value of their homes — ensuring that equity stays with the families who built it; and Michael Lucas, Executive Director of Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, on the eviction pressures facing legacy renters, pointing to more than 48,000 evictions filed in Fulton County last year, with a significant share concentrated in Atlanta Public Schools clusters connected to the Westside.

We're grateful to everyone who joined us for this important conversation. Missed the Summit? Read a recap or watch the full Summit on our Stories of Impact page at https://www.westsidefuturefund.org/may-summit-recap-rooted-and-rising-protecting-our-neighbors/

Thank you to the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for sponsoring this month's event.

Congratulations to Sara Buckmaster, one of the newest homeowners through Westside Future Fund's Home on the Westside program.

A graduate of the Clark Atlanta University Leadership Program and a current doctoral candidate at Emory University, Sara's research focuses on community engagement and housing in underserved neighborhoods. At just 24, she closed on a three-bedroom home in English Avenue last month with support from WFF's down payment assistance program.

Sara's story reflects exactly what Home on the Westside was built to do: create real pathways to homeownership for the people who are invested in the future of the historic Westside.

Congratulations, Sara, and welcome home.

This morning, Westside residents, community members, and business and civic leaders convened for another important community conversation at the Transform Westside Summit.

We had the opportunity to hear from Sterling Johnson, Lisa Flowers, and Michael Lucas on the importance of housing stability in keeping families anchored in the communities they know and love.

We're grateful to everyone who continues to lean in, month after month, to advance the vision of a stronger, more connected Westside. Your presence and commitment are what make this progress possible. Thank you for joining us.

If you couldn't make it, don't worry! You can still watch the full Summit on our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Snc_DylztUs

Last month, we gathered at Westside Motor Lounge for our Friends of the Westside Celebration — an evening to thank the donors, partners, and neighbors who make this work possible.

Hearing from homeowners putting down roots, partners who have walked this journey with us, and folks who serve this community every day was a reminder of what Dr. King called the inescapable network of mutuality. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. The restoration of Atlanta's historic Westside is a shared calling.

As we enter the final stretch of our Our Next Chapter campaign, we are deeply grateful for every friend who has helped carry this work forward — and for the legacy residents whose vision and perseverance anchor everything we do.

If you believe in the impact of this work, believe in the restoration of these historic neighborhoods, and want to help us close out this campaign, visit https://givebutter.com/WFF_OurNextChapter to continue this work with us.

Thank you for being a Friend of the Westside.
