Welcome home, Monica!

Monica Sealey just closed on a three-bedroom home in English Avenue through Home on the Westside. As a chaplain at Grady Hospital, Monica is there for patients and families in their hardest moments. She also gives her time to community work at the AUC Center and service projects with Peace Prep. Now the neighborhood she invests in is home.

This closing was made possible by down payment assistance from Westside Future Fund and our partners at Atlanta Housing and Invest Atlanta. That's what Home on the Westside is built to do: create real pathways for people with deep connections to the historic Westside to stay and build here.

For Broderick Thompson-Smith, home means showing up.

He calls his front porch an oasis. He added curtains and a television, and he likes being able to sit outside and talk with the neighbors who look out for one another.

“We hold each other down,” he says. That sense of community is part of what makes his home on Atlanta’s historic Westside special to him.

When he founded Music Without Limits, he wanted to give young people room to make music and films. He describes the joy of watching a child hear their voice on a recording for the first time. For teenagers, writing a song can help them put a difficult experience into words. He wants the studio to be a place where young people feel heard, create freely and have fun.

Atlanta’s historic Westside was in motion this weekend!

Hundreds of neighbors, friends, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners came together at 970 Jefferson for the fifth annual Ride for the Westside.

On foot and on two wheels, they covered the historic streets of English Avenue, Vine City, and beyond, celebrating the people and places that make this community special.

Tomorrow’s the day! 🎉

Ride for the Westside returns to 970 Jefferson tomorrow morning, bringing together neighbors, families, cyclists, runners, walkers, volunteers, and community partners from across Atlanta.

Here’s the schedule:
7:30 a.m. — Bib pickup and race-day registration
8:30 a.m. — 10-mile bike loop
9 a.m. — Chip-timed 5K
9 a.m. — Heritage Walking Tour
10 a.m. — 5K awards

Stick around afterward for free food and fun activities for the whole family.

The 18th Annual Festival of Lights is coming back to the Westside!

Join us and the Historic Westside Cultural Arts Council on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 870 Proctor Street NW for a free day celebrating wellness and community.

Expect free food and treats, a kids and youth carnival, a health fair with local nonprofits, live entertainment and a dance contest, plus a trail ride and line dancing with DJ "Shawty" White. At 2 p.m., Mausiki Scales & the Common Ground Collective take the stage, with America's Songbird Myrna Clayton also featured.

Westside Future Fund is proud to support this longtime neighborhood tradition.

Planning your experience? Here are a few things to know before September 26:

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?
Choose the secure 10-mile bike loop, chip-timed 5K, or Heritage Walking Tour.

IS THE 5K TIMED?
Yes! The 5K is chip timed and is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The bike loop and Heritage Walking Tour are not timed.

WHERE CAN I SEE THE ROUTES?
Course maps for the 5K and 10-mile bike loop are available on the registration page.

WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?
Bib pickup and race-day registration open at 7:30 a.m. The bike loop begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K and Heritage Walking Tour at 9 a.m.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARD?
Stick around for the 5K awards, free food, fun activities for the whole family, and a community celebration at 970 Jefferson.
