A strong start can shape everything that comes next.

Through local early learning programs like Learning Spaces at The Villages at Carver Family YMCA—in partnership with United Way of Greater Atlanta —and Head Start at Slater Elementary, children build —and Head Start at Slater Elementary, children are building the social and emotional skills they need to communicate, learn, and feel confident in the classroom. For some, it is their very first school experience.

As Chantrice Harrington of the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta shares, early learning creates a strong pipeline from age three through pre-K and kindergarten, helping set children up for success well beyond those first years.

Brownsville Pointe is looking a little different these days! These new drone photos give us a fresh look at the progress taking shape. What was once a plan on paper is becoming a real part of the neighborhood!

Brownsville Pointe will include 18 new apartment homes, with 12 dedicated affordable units, as well as commercial space for a local entrepreneur.

We’re excited to keep watching this vision come to life!

Who in your life deserves their flowers?

For Atlanta artist Travis Love, that question became the inspiration behind Flowers, his solo exhibition currently on display at Community Grounds.

“The flowers collection was created to pay homage to everyday people who don’t normally get their flowers,” Travis shares. “There are a lot of amazing stories that go untold and do not get the light of day, and through this collection I want to highlight and shine a light on everyday working-class people that deserve their flowers: single mothers, mentors, leaders, brothers, or just the person that makes your coffee in the morning.”

That makes Community Grounds a pretty fitting place to showcase Flowers.

Travis grew up in Decatur and found his way into art through Atlanta’s skateboard, street art, and graffiti cultures before becoming a graphic designer and entrepreneur. His connection to Historic South Atlanta comes from having a long-standing art studio down the street from Community Grounds, and through time spent right here at the coffee shop.

His vibrant Flowers collection explores growth, beauty, and acknowledgment while inviting us to recognize the people who help our communities bloom.

“Throughout my life, there have been many people who have stepped up to help mold me and shape me into the person I have become,” Travis says. “Those are people who deserve their flowers.”

What does it take to build a stronger financial future? Showing up, learning new skills, and taking small steps forward.

That’s exactly what participants in FCS’s Financial Achievement Club are doing.

During this month’s session, Leonard Bohannon of Bank OZK shared this reminder:

“Excellence isn't about being perfect. It's about showing up with the right energy, giving your best effort, and executing with purpose. When we do that together, everybody wins.”

Over six months, participants are building financial skills, strengthening savings habits, and working toward a $600 savings goal with a dollar-for-dollar match.

Over the past year, one theme has come through clearly in conversations with parents and families: education matters deeply.

Families want strong opportunities for their children, and when those opportunities do not feel accessible close to home, they are often faced with difficult choices.

Those conversations matter. So does the data. Together, they are helping shape FCS’s focus on Cradle-to-Career Education, with particular attention to Early Learning.
