Healthcare should be a human right, yet too many people still face barriers to accessing the care they need.

Yesterday, Kathryn Lawler, our President and CEO, took the stage as a featured panelist at the Agnes Scott College Women’s Global Leadership Conference.

Joining a dynamic group of women leaders from Atlanta and beyond, Kathryn shared her thoughts on healthcare, innovation, and leadership. She emphasized the need to expand access to care and address the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

We’re proud to have Kathryn representing Mercy Care on such a prestigious platform, shaping conversations that inspire future leaders and drive positive change in healthcare.

The highlight of the panel was her take on universal healthcare, which garnered major applause: “Healthcare should be a human right,” she said. “We all want to be healthy so we can do other things. That’s how society evolves,” she noted. “As we innovate, I urge us to consider everyone – especially those left out during this time of change.”

The impact of Medicaid cuts is already being felt in Georgia.

As of October 1, many lawfully present immigrants have lost Medicaid coverage and may eventually lose SNAP benefits due to changes in eligibility and work requirements. These changes come at a time when Georgia already ranks among the nation's worst states for Hispanic healthcare access.

We believe healthcare is a human right. We don't ask our patients about their immigration status because everyone deserves access to quality, compassionate care.

We're grateful to our President & CEO, Kathryn Lawler, for speaking with CBS News Atlanta about how these policy changes affect our patients, our healthcare system, and the communities we serve every day.

Rates of HIV in Atlanta remain a serious public health concern, making awareness, prevention, testing, and treatment more important than ever. ❤️

On Saturday, Mercy Care was proud to join the AIDS Walk Atlanta Music Festival & 5K Run, standing alongside our community in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Our team walked with purpose, connected with attendees, and shared information about the testing, treatment, and support services we have at Mercy Care. 🩺

💬 Erica Pickens, who participated for the first time, shared:

"Participating in AIDS Walk Atlanta was incredible! Seeing everyone come together for such an important cause was inspiring. I loved connecting with vendors and learning about their resources,” she says. “Joining the 5K with the Mercy Care team made me feel part of something bigger. Celebrating afterward with a cherry ice-flavored snow cone was the perfect treat!"

Thank you to all our colleagues who participated and to everyone who showed up to support this important cause. Together, we can raise awareness, reduce stigma, and help ensure more people have access to the care they need. ❤️

We're passionate about raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and supporting the health and well-being of those affected in our community, especially as rates are rising right here in Atlanta.

Last night, we had the privilege of hosting Out of Hand Theater at Mercy Care for a powerful performance of Status. This moving one-man show tells the story of members of an HIV/AIDS support group as they come together to support a newly diagnosed man who is struggling to reconcile his diagnosis with the life he has built.

The performance shed light on the ongoing impact of HIV in Atlanta, where thousands of people continue to live with the disease and where Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+ communities are disproportionately affected.

We're grateful to Out of Hand Theater for bringing this meaningful experience to Mercy Care and our community, and helping us continue the conversation about compassion, awareness, and ensuring everyone has access to the care and support they need.

El domingo, nuestro equipo pudo compartir con las familias que estuvieron en la celebración de Fiestas Patrias ¡VIVA MÉXICO! en Plaza Fiesta. Esta celebración, realizada en honor al tradicional Grito de Independencia organizado por el Consulado de México, ha sido una tradición por más de 19 años. 🎉

Tuvimos conversaciones muy valiosas, compartimos recursos e información sobre los servicios y apoyos disponibles para la salud y el bienestar de los niños y sus familias. Así también de importante, ser parte de esta celebración nos dio la oportunidad de honrar la historia de nuestra comunidad, celebrar sus logros y experimentar la riqueza de su cultura. 🩺

Eventos como este nos recuerdan que las comunidades fuertes se construyen a través de la conexión, el diálogo y el apoyo mutuo. Estamos muy agradecidos por la oportunidad de poder celebrar juntos, y de formar parte de un evento lleno de vida. 🩵

Our community is at the heart of everything we do, which is why we always value opportunities to connect with families outside the clinic walls. ❤️

On Sunday, our team enjoyed being part of the Fiestas Patrias Celebration ¡VIVA MÉXICO! at Plaza Fiesta and spending time with the families who make our community so special. The celebration, held in honor of the Mexican Consulate's El Grito (Mexican Independence Celebration), has been a Plaza Fiesta tradition for more than 19 years. 🎉

We had meaningful conversations with so many wonderful families, sharing resources and information about the health and well-being support available to children and their families. 🩺

Events like these remind us that strong communities are built through connection, conversation, and showing up for one another. We're grateful for the opportunity to celebrate alongside our neighbors and be part of such a vibrant event. 🩵

The most powerful healers are often those who know what it means to struggle.

That's one reason JJ, now a Mercy Care employee, connects so deeply with the patients she supports every day.

At 15, JJ struggled with addiction and depression. Growing up in Louisiana, she didn't have access to a place like Mercy Care and had to find her own path to healing. At 21, she made the life-changing decision to take control of her health, leave addiction behind, and move to Atlanta for a fresh start. Today, she has been in recovery for more than 20 years.

JJ joined Mercy Care as a Security Guard and now serves as a Personal Support Aide, helping patients navigate challenges with compassion, practical support, and encouragement. Whether she's taking someone to an appointment, helping them find warm clothing, sharing a conversation, or simply making them laugh, JJ is there for them.

As JJ puts it:

"I'm blessed to be able to share my story with other people because I wouldn't be where I am today without my coworkers and Mercy Care."

Stories like JJ's remind us that healing happens through human connection.
