Black elders marched. Organized. And built the political infrastructure that made representation possible — and this week’s Supreme Court ruling is another attempt to dismantle what they built.

The Court’s 6-3 decision guts Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and strikes down Louisiana’s majority-Black congressional district — opening the door to redistricting that erases Black voices and representation across the country.

However, history reminds us that the elders who stood on those front lines didn’t just make history; they showed us the value of our collective power. Now is the time that we must embrace it, draw from it, and carry it forward with the same intention and conviction that got us here.🖤✊🏾

Congratulations to Aging While Black board member Edwin Walker on receiving the ASA President’s Award! 🎉

The President’s Award honors individuals whose work has made an outstanding impact on aging services and transformed how communities support older adults. As a Board Member for Aging While Black, his leadership continues to open doors, challenge assumptions, and affirm that Black elders deserve to be seen, celebrated, and supported.

We are proud to have his wisdom and vision guiding our work at awB.

Celebrate with us! 🙌🏾

Black Americans are twice as likely to develop dementia—yet remain the least studied, supported, and centered in the research shaping care.

At Aging While Black, we believe our elders deserve care that knows their name, honors their story, and reflects the communities they built. That means showing up in the right rooms and shifting the narrative.

We’re honored that our very own, Jetson will keynote the Summit in Atlanta, bringing a vision grounded in community, culture, and lived experience.

Looking forward to being part of this timely conversation next week.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the awB Learning Center (Regency VI) at On Aging 2026.

From awB 101 to the Black Aging Summit, you can expect real conversations on belonging, visibility, and reimagining Black aging in America.

Have you secured your spot?

It was nothing but Positive Vibes Only at Aging While Black: Leaving Fingerprints on Eternity during the Modern Elders Academy workshop in Santa Fe, NM. ✨🖤

The room was full, the energy was electric, and the people showed up and showed OUT. ✊🏾 Attendees came ready to reflect, connect, and celebrate what it means to age as Black people — with intention, with joy, and with community.

Hear directly from workshop participants about what the experience meant to them and why centering Black elders in these conversations matters deeply.

Thank you for an amazing experience.

The Province Council in Dallas was a real example of what Black institutions have always known how to do: build, sustain, and pass it on.

These aren’t just organizations. They are ecosystems of belonging, accountability, and legacy. This picture is a reflection of that legacy across 50 years.

For Black elders who have given decades to these spaces, that investment is woven into who we are as a community today.

Let’s honor what our institutions have built, and remain committed to what they’ll continue to create. 🖤
