Can anyone offer Sammy an alibi? Let's get creative!
Sammy was in for a re‑check for a possible foreign body. He came in for follow‑up x‑rays to make sure everything inside his tummy looked safe and clear. And according to Sammy he would like everyone to know he is innocent until proven guilty.

Cats are notorious for getting into things they shouldn’t. String hair ties rubber bands tiny toys you name it. A foreign body can hide quietly until it becomes a big problem. Vomiting loss of appetite lethargy or sudden belly pain can all be signs that something is stuck where it shouldn’t be.

Re‑checks like Sammy’s matter.
They help us catch trouble early.
They keep pets safe and comfortable.
They give families peace of mind.

Sammy handled his x‑rays like a champ. He may deny all allegations, but he definitely enjoyed the attention.

Another Pyometra Case We Wish We Didn’t Have to Share 💗🐾
We know it’s tough to see so many pyometra posts.
We know it feels heavy.
We know it feels repetitive.

But it is even tougher to keep seeing these cases walk through our doors.

Today we cared for MJ, a sweet girl who came in with pyometra, a life‑threatening uterine infection that strikes unspayed female dogs. She needed urgent treatment and a spay to save her life. Pyometra is painful. It is dangerous. It progresses fast. And it is 100 percent preventable.

We share these stories because we want every family to know the truth.
Pyometra is not rare.
It is not dramatic.
It is not something you can wait out.

It is an emergency that can take a dog’s life in hours.

Spaying prevents pyometra.
Spaying prevents suffering.
Spaying saves lives.

We will keep talking about this until the message reaches every corner. We will keep showing up for dogs like MJ. We will keep fighting for prevention because no pet should ever face this.

H.E.A.R.T., Inc. needs a fuel sponsor! ⛽🐾
Every day, H.E.A.R.T., Inc. brings affordable vet care to the pets and families who need it most. So far in 2026, that's more than 1,000 spays and neuters and over 1,600 vaccines, and fuel costs are making it harder to keep going.
For those who don't know how we do it: our travel from location to location runs on gasoline, but the generator that powers our services runs on diesel, which is currently OVER $6 per gallon. No generator, no surgeries. No surgeries, more animals in shelters.
We're looking for:

Why Dental Care Matters More Than Most People Realize 💛🐾
Sweet Roxy was in for a dental. Because of the amount of anesthesia time needed, we were only able to complete half of her dental work. She will return for the rest once she is fully recovered and safe to go under anesthesia again. Her comfort and safety always come first.

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. It hides quietly until it becomes painful. What looks like “just bad breath” is often infection deep under the gumline. When plaque and tartar build up, bacteria spread. Teeth loosen. Gums recede. Eating becomes uncomfortable. Over time, that bacteria can travel through the bloodstream and affect the heart, liver, and kidneys.

A dental cleaning is not cosmetic.
It is medical.
It is essential.
It protects the whole body.

Roxy is lucky. She has a team who loves her enough to make sure she gets the care she needs, even when it takes more than one visit. She has people who show up for her. She has a village.

💜🐾 Sophie’s Story: A Reminder We Wish We Didn’t Have to Share 💜🐾
Sweet Sophie came to us in urgent need. Her labor had stopped progressing, and her body could no longer deliver her puppies safely. She required an emergency c‑section, immediate resuscitation efforts, and a spay to protect her from future danger.

Our team worked quickly. We focused on Sophie first, making sure she survived the surgery. We also worked to support her puppies, but in cases like this the outcome is never guaranteed. When a mom reaches this level of crisis, the babies are often in trouble long before anyone realizes something is wrong. Sometimes they make it. Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes we wait and hope while doing everything possible.

What happened to Sophie is not rare.
It is not dramatic.
It is not something a family can safely “wait out.”

Many dogs, especially certain breeds, cannot deliver naturally. Their bodies are not built for it. When labor goes wrong, it becomes life‑threatening fast. Moms suffer. Puppies suffer. Families suffer. Rescues step in and do everything they can, but emergencies like Sophie’s are preventable.

Spaying is not just about preventing litters.
It is about protecting moms from pain and danger.
It is about preventing heartbreak before it happens.
It is about choosing compassion early so families never face this fear.

💜🐾 Lily’s Pyometra Journey: Compassion Over Cost
Lily came to us in crisis. Her regular vet quoted $8,000 for emergency pyometra surgery or recommended euthanasia. Another vet told her family about H.E.A.R.T. Inc., and that simple act of kindness changed everything for Lily.

Pyometra is a life‑threatening infection of the uterus. It comes on fast and can be fatal without surgery. Many families are blindsided by the cost of emergency care, and Lily’s family was devastated when they were told saving her might be impossible. But they refused to give up, and thanks to the referral, Lily made it to us.

Our team examined her, confirmed the diagnosis, and moved quickly. Lily received the surgery she needed, and she handled it with so much bravery. Today she is healing, comfortable, and back to being her sweet self.

💜🐾 Eleanor’s Story: Love, Loss, and Compassion in Action
Eleanor’s dad had just moved to Catonsville. He had no local family or friends and had recently lost his significant other. Then he lost his job, which meant he lost his transportation too. When Eleanor became sick, he didn’t know how he would get her help, but thanks to our incredible volunteers, she did.

We saw Eleanor twice.
The first time, one of our AMAZING volunteers drove to Catonsville, picked up Eleanor and her dad, and brought them to our mobile unit. Diagnostics showed what looked like a foreign object near her colon, and we hoped it would pass without surgery. Eleanor went home with supportive care and lots of love.

A few days later, Eleanor declined. She stopped eating and couldn’t get up. Her dad, now working his first days at a new job, took multiple buses to get there. When he got permission to leave, our team stepped in again, this time paying for an Uber so Eleanor could reach us quickly.

Dr. Mazzurco re‑examined her and called in colleagues for additional ultrasounds. Eleanor went to Robin’s house for IV fluids while waiting for answers. Dr. Catherine Wood came to help, and together they confirmed what we feared, the shadow in Eleanor’s colon was not a foreign body but a mass. The prognosis was grave.

Eleanor’s dad spent time with her, holding her and saying goodbye. He stayed with her as she crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully, surrounded by care and compassion.

Before he left, we gave him a note for his new boss thanking them for their kindness and confirming he had come to us for Eleanor’s care. He left with a heavy heart but deep gratitude; for the volunteers, donors, and supporters who made it possible for Eleanor to receive diagnostics, comfort, and dignity in her final moments.
