Last week, our President Dr. Jana Davis joined in visiting an active project in the Severn River Watershed partially funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust! 🌊

The Whole Watershed Program Projects aim to implement bioretention pools to reduce the amount of trash and pollution that enters storm drain and exists to Back Creek, a tributary of the Severn River.

Pictured in the third slide is one of the sealed up storm drained the Bay Trust helped to design. We’re so grateful for all of the partnership and effort going into this collective goal! 🤝

Get ready to get outside for this year’s annual Trolley Trail Day! ☀️
 
Hosted by , this regional event will be taking place Saturday, June 13 along the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail, connecting College Park, Riverdale Park, and Hyattsville to the Anacostia River Trail System and Capital Trails Network! A wide variety of family-friendly activities will partake, such as fun runs, bike rides, local music, shops, art, history, kids activities, food, drink, fitness and more.

We held an im-peck-able community meeting last week at ! 🐓 Our Curtis Bay community grantees came together to share their project success stories, funded by our Healthy Environment, Healthy Communities Grant Program.

From community clean-ups, to youth summer programs, to beekeeping, we were blown away by all of these organizations empowering people and restoring nature on a local level.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is seeking qualified contractors to:

🌊Maintain existing stormwater best management practices (BMPs) in the City of Annapolis’ BMP Inventory
🤝Provide outreach and education to communities on stormwater BMPs
📝 Survey and verify existing BMPs to be added into the City’s BMP Inventory

As tree planting season winds down and we head towards summer maintenance, we want to celebrate the work of Baltimore East Community Development Corporation through their Urban Trees grant 👏🌳
 
Six neighborhoods (Broadway East, Fort Worthington, Darley Park, East Baltimore-Midway, Oliver and South Clifton Park) collaborated to plant a total 320 trees!

These neighborhoods had a median tree canopy coverage of 11% before their Urban Trees grant - far lower than the city of Baltimore’s goal of 40%. Through collaborative work between residents in the area, the siting of tree species, and partnership with Division Street Landscaping, this project increased neighborhood tree canopy and helped residents find meaningful work in urban forestry. 🏙️💚

🌧️ Property owners with stormwater BMPs in Annapolis, this opportunity is STILL open for you!

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is proud to partner with the City of Annapolis to offer the Stormwater Facility Maintenance Support Program, helping property owners maintain and verify stormwater best management practices (BMPs).

While BMP maintenance is the responsibility of property owners, we recognize there can be barriers. This program provides a one-time, cost-share maintenance opportunity by connecting you with qualified contractors! 
 
🔧 Scope 1: Maintenance of BMPs
Eligible only for property owners with BMPs registered in the City of Annapolis’ BMP inventory to receive support for one-time maintenance.
📋 Scope 2: Surveying & Verifying BMPs
Eligible for property owners with BMPs not yet registered to be surveyed and added to the City’s inventory. Once verified, you may be eligible for a reduction in your stormwater fee.

🗓 Deadline Extension: Rolling applications through May 29, 2026
