Thank you to everyone who joined us at our tree planting last week with the at the Makkah Learning Center in Gambrills, Maryland. We planted 140 trees with the help of Digging in the Dirt, , and the . Edward Sinnes, Alliance Forests Projects Coordinator, designed the installation with a path in the middle, with the trees being part of a food forest, with all species having edible fruits, nuts, or seeds!

Fall is the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of creation and give a little love back to the earth.

Here are a few ways to care for creation this season:

🍁 Leave the leaves to give bugs and pollinators a place to call home.
🌱 Plant a native tree or some fall-friendly native plants.
🧤 Grab a friend and pick up litter in your neighborhood.
🐦 Leave seed heads and natural spaces for birds and wildlife.
🚶 Take a walk outside and enjoy a little screen-free time in nature (because you are also apart of Creation and need cared for!).

At Beth Shalom Congregation in Columbia, that seed was planted more than a decade ago with a rain garden designed to care for their sacred grounds and the Chesapeake watershed.

It’s a quote we return to often at IPC because it captures something essential: our responsibility to one another, to our communities, and to the land and waters we share.

In a new guest reflection, Rabbi Nina Beth Cardin invites us to look more deeply at the life and legacy of Wendell Berry and at why his words about humility, stewardship, and reverence for the earth continue to speak so powerfully to us today.

🌿 Meet the final speakers joining us TONIGHT!

We’re excited to welcome Rev. Cindy Lapp & the Hyattsville Mennonite Church Creation Care Team, who will open and close the evening with reflections on caring for our shared home. They’ll also share some of the ways their congregation is putting creation care into practice!

♻️ Tiaa B. Rutherford, M.E.P., CPM, Litter Reduction Program Manager for Prince George’s County Government, works at the intersection of environmental stewardship and community development. She partners with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to find practical solutions to reduce litter and strengthen environmental initiatives.

Come hear from these speakers and join the conversation following tonight’s screening of Plastic People.
