🎓💙 Five little graduates. One very big milestone!

Last Friday, we celebrated five of our Denali Explorers as they completed the program and prepared for their next adventure: kindergarten! 🎒✏️

Denali Explorers serves children ages 3–5, wrapping therapeutic support around each child in a setting that mirrors a classroom. Through play, learning, connection and individualized support, our team helps children build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in school, daycare and beyond.

Watching these five littles celebrate alongside their caregivers and DFS staff was a beautiful example of our mission in action. 💙

A huge thank you to our incredible Explorers staff for the patience, compassion and hard work they poured into this cohort throughout the year. We also want to recognize former DFS team member Carolyn for the important role she played in helping these kiddos grow and prepare for this moment.

And graduation wouldn't be complete without flowers! 🌸 Caregiver Ms. Rose brought flowers for each teacher, with Rada handpicking the arrangements—such a thoughtful way to recognize the people who helped these little Explorers along their journey.

To our graduates: We are so proud of you! Have an amazing time in kindergarten! 🎓🌟

☀️ DFS is out and about in the Mat-Su!

DFS was glad to join the Palmer Chamber of Commerce Luncheon today and hear from Blake Allen, CEO of the Alaska State Fair , about what’s ahead for one of Alaska’s favorite annual traditions! 🎡🎠

With the Alaska State Fair right around the corner, it was a great opportunity to connect with fellow Chamber members, hear what’s new for this year’s Fair, and celebrate everything happening in the Mat-Su community.

And speaking of the Fair… keep an eye out for Denali Family Services at Raven Hall this year! 👀💙 We’re excited to be part of the fun and connect with our community.

Thank you to the Palmer Chamber for bringing our local businesses and organizations together!

At Denali Family Services, healing doesn't just happen in an office—it happens on trails, mountainsides, bike paths, campgrounds, and in the great outdoors that make Alaska so special. 🌲🚴‍♀️🏔️

Our Recreational Therapy team works year-round to help youth build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and experience the joy of trying something new.

In 2026, our youth:
🚴 Explored Anchorage's Coastal Trail, stopping at Woronzof Point to watch planes take off and enjoy the view before continuing their ride.
🥾 Hiked through Denali National Park, crossing a suspension bridge and completing a three-mile adventure from the Visitor Center.
⛷️ Hit the slopes at Alyeska Resort through a partnership with Challenge Alaska, giving youth the opportunity to learn skiing and snowboarding with professional instruction and equipment.

These experiences are more than recreation—they're opportunities for growth, resilience, connection, and creating positive memories that last a lifetime.

A huge shout out to our Recreational Therapy team for the creativity, dedication, and care they bring to our youth every day. 💙

👏 Shout Out to Our Incredible DFS Training Team! 👏

We are fortunate to have some amazing professionals leading learning opportunities for resource families across Alaska, and we want to recognize Katrina Eggers and Jessica Campbell for sharing their expertise during Alaska Center for Resource Families's upcoming De-escalation Through Connection training on Sept. 3.

Katrina, our Director of Training and Development, will be presenting The Art of Attunement: Building Connection Before Correction, helping caregivers understand how connection, co-regulation, and trust can prevent challenging behaviors before they escalate.

Jessica, our Training Specialist, will lead From Escalation to Connection: Helping Youth Feel Safe, Regulated, & Heard, offering practical tools to understand behavior, recognize warning signs, and respond in ways that strengthen relationships rather than intensify conflict.

These sessions reflect the heart of DFS—supporting youth and families through connection, understanding, and evidence-based practices. Thank you, Katrina and Jessica, for your passion, knowledge, and commitment to helping caregivers succeed!

De-escalation through Connection Webi-Conference
Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 @ 9:00am-2:30pm on Zoom!

We invite resource families to join us for interactive training sessions presented by Denali Family Services staff on De-escalation through Connection!

Session 1 (9:00am-10:30am) – The Art of Attunement: Building Connection Before Correction
Connection.

Presented by: Katrina Eggers, DFS Director of Training and Development
This 90-minute presentation focuses on the art of attunement and its role in building secure relationships, supporting emotional regulation, and reducing challenging behaviors before they escalate. Participants will explore how attunement serves as the foundation for effective parenting and caregiving, learn practical co-regulation strategies, and examine the impact of trauma on connection. The session will also address what happens when we miss the mark, including how to recognize mis-attunement, repair relationship ruptures, and strengthen trust.

Session 2 (10:45am-12:15pm) – From Escalation to Connection: Helping Youth Feel Safe, Regulated, & Heard

Presented by: Jessica Campbell, DFS Training Specialist
This 90-minute session equips participants with practical, relationship-centered strategies for understanding and responding to challenging behavior in youth. Participants will explore how behavior serves as a form of communication and learn to identify the underlying needs that behaviors may represent. The session will focus on recognizing early warning signs of escalation, responding with techniques that de-escalate rather than intensify conflict, and using connection-based approaches to maintain safety and trust during difficult moments.

Session 3 (1:00pm-2:30pm) – Homework Without the Battle: Practical Strategies for De-escalating Homework Conflict

Presented by: Julia Wishart, DFS Training Specialist
This interactive 90-minute session will walk through what’s really happening behind homework meltdowns: why homework can trigger stress responses in children who have experienced trauma or instability, and how to recognize the skill gaps and emotional needs that homework struggles often signal. Participants will explore practical, research-backed strategies to reduce tension before it escalates, as well as how to de-escalate calmly when it does.

We look forward to seeing you there, please register here! >>> https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/BrBTJvduQSCIqmWGQIoKWg #/registration
