October 10th program: Marguerite Porter Davison Project

Gather Press will be publishing a book of drafts, projects, and weave structure wisdom drawing on designs from Marguerite Porter Davison’s beloved A Handweaver’s Pattern Book. We’re weaving beautiful new samples in colour, looking at how Davison designed her drafts, and coming up with fresh drafts based in the treasure trove of ideas in A Handweaver’s Pattern Book. This presentation will walk you through the ambitious project of weaving a gigantic number of samples, share some of the challenges we met along the way, and give you a sneak peek into the result, coming very, very soon!

is a weaving shop and studio located in Edmonton on Treaty 6 territory. We are a small but mighty team of passionate weavers that care about quality materials, building community, and the rich and diverse history of textile practices. We are dedicated to the preservation of weaving knowledge through research, thoughtful making, and sharing of ideas.

Jamie is a handweaver and weaving instructor who only feels truly relaxed when sitting at a loom. At Gather, Jamie teaches four shaft weaving and writes content for the Gather blog, troubleshooting series, and online learning. Jamie is passionate about welcoming new weavers to the craft and about bringing weaving into community spaces.

Kim is the owner of Gather Textiles. As a workshop instructor, she has taught hundreds of new weavers how to create cloth and design woven pieces. As a designer, she leads Gather’s pattern development and creative direction. Kim is constantly on the lookout for ways to grow communities around craft.

SELL your (gently) used fiber equipment at Fiber Fest!

Do you have fiber arts tools or equipment that have been passed down to you or you're just no longer using? Here's an opportunity to give them a new home!

Anyone can bring items to sell, with 20% of sales supporting the Fiber Festival and 80% going back to the seller!

New or used items are welcome, including but not limited to: spinning wheels, looms, wool carders and combs, spindles, needles, hooks, yarn winders and swifts, etc. No yarn or fiber - tools and equipment only!

ITEM DROP OFF: Friday 10/9 from 5-8pm or Saturday 10/10 from 9-10am at the Alaskaland Centennial Center.

You can pre-register your items now on our website - not required, but preferred!

Anything not sold will need to be picked up on the afternoon of Sunday 10/10.

Emma Hildebrand was born in Northway, Alaska where she was raised in a semi-subsistence lifestyle. Her mother, a Koyukon Athabascan raised in a completely traditional subsistence lifestyle, taught her to bead and skin sew from the age of seven.

**Due to the large number of people who want to participate we will do a wheel of names to choose those who participate.
Attendance will be priority to those who are family of MMIP and/or people who were displaced by Typhoon Halong. Registration will be open until October 7th, 2026**
