Triumphant Thursdays!

Every Thursday, we will shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done at local American Legion Posts across our communities. This is a day to celebrate the events that bring veterans, families, and neighbors together, while recognizing the success stories that make our organization strong.

This Triumphant Thursday, we would like to recognize the outstanding efforts of Interior AK American Legion Post 99! From conducting respectful Flag Retirement Ceremonies, presenting American Legion School Medal Awards to deserving students, and leading Flag Day activities, this Post continues to demonstrate what it means to serve community, country, and future generations.

Of course, we would expect nothing less from the home of the Department's Commander of the Year. Amanda has built an incredible team of dedicated Legionnaires and Sons, and volunteers who are making a tremendous impact throughout their community. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and willingness to step up whenever called upon serve as an example for all of us.

One thing we still can't figure out is where Amanda finds all that energy, but whatever the secret is, it's contagious! Her leadership inspires those around her, and the results speak for themselves.

Congratulations to Post and Squadron 99 for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of The American Legion. Thank you for leading by example and showing what can be accomplished when a team comes together in service to others.

Kudos, Post and Squadron 99—keep up the great work and continue to lead the way!

The Department of Alaska American Legion Unity Award is a true reflection of what it means to be an American Legion Family. This award recognizes Posts, Squadrons, Units, and Riders Chapters that work together to accomplish our shared mission of service to veterans, youth, communities, and our nation.

As you complete projects throughout the year, be sure to document your efforts, take photos, track participation, and record the impact your American Legion Family is making. By working together and sharing responsibilities, you not only strengthen your local programs but also create a powerful record of unity worthy of recognition.

The Unity Award is more than an award, it is a showcase of the teamwork, fellowship, and dedication that makes The American Legion Family stronger together. Let your success stories be told, and show Alaska what can be accomplished when we unite behind a common purpose.

American Legion Baseball in Alaska is far more than just a summer sports program. It is one of the American Legion's most successful youth development programs, helping young Alaskans grow into leaders both on and off the field. The program teaches sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and active citizenship while bringing together youth from communities large and small across our state.

For many players, Legion Baseball provides opportunities they might not otherwise have. Alaska's unique geography can make competitive sports challenging, but Legion Baseball gives young athletes a chance to travel, compete, build lifelong friendships, and represent their communities with pride. The lessons learned through hard work, dedication, and teamwork often carry over into school, careers, military service, and community leadership.

The program also opens doors to higher education. American Legion Baseball players can compete for scholarships that recognize academic achievement, leadership, character, and community service. These opportunities help young athletes pursue college and vocational training while rewarding excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Perhaps most importantly, American Legion Baseball strengthens the bond between veterans and youth. Legionnaires volunteer countless hours mentoring players, passing on values of patriotism, responsibility, and service. Through this connection, veterans continue their legacy of serving their communities while helping shape the next generation of Alaskan leaders.

In Alaska, American Legion Baseball isn't simply about winning games, it's about building character, developing leaders, creating opportunities, and ensuring that our youth learn the values that make strong citizens and strong communities.

Today we celebrate the 251st Birthday of the United States Army, honoring over two and a half centuries of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering service to our nation. Each year on June 14th, Americans celebrate Flag Day, a time to honor the Stars and Stripes and reflect on the values it represents. Our flag is more than just a piece of cloth, it is a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, unity, and the enduring spirit of our nation. It serves as a reminder of the brave men and women who have defended our liberties throughout our country's history and those who continue to serve today.

The American Legion has long been a proud champion of Flag Day and the proper respect and care of our nation's flag. Through community ceremonies, educational programs, flag retirement services, and youth activities, Legionnaires work year-round to promote patriotism and ensure future generations understand the significance of our national emblem. Many American Legion Posts distribute flags, teach proper flag etiquette, and lead observances that bring communities together in appreciation of our shared heritage.

On Flag Day, let us pause to honor the symbol that unites us as Americans. Whether displayed at homes, businesses, schools, or American Legion Posts, the flag stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the sacrifices made in the pursuit of liberty. May we always show it the respect it deserves and proudly carry forward the values it represents.
