Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness

Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness Hours: M-F 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Office Hours (walk-ins): Tues & Thurs, 10 a.m. - noon & 1 - 4 p.m. Note to our followers and commenters: Please be respectful.

We coordinate our community's homelessness response, bringing people and organizations together to help our unhoused neighbors. Be kind to others. Be open to differences of opinion. We encourage debate but cannot allow hateful comments or foul language. Thank you! The Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness (ACEH) is a convener around preventing and ending homelessness. ACEH is the lead agency for

the Anchorage Continuum of Care, jointly oversees the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) with the statewide Alaska Coalition on Housing and Homelessness, and works to implement the Anchorage community plan to end homelessness Anchored Home. ACEH was formed in 2004, originally named the Anchorage Coalition on Homelessness, and is the only local network of businesses, non-profits, and community members focused on the prevention and elimination of homelessness in Anchorage. ACEH became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2012 and became its own fiscal agent in July 2013, at that time changing to the current name of the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness. Currently, over 50 organizations are actively engaged in the coalition.

Alaska is proud to be one of just ten communities nationwide selected to participate in the Right at Home initiative, a groundbreaking effort to prevent homelessness before it starts.

This week, Alaska partners joined leaders from across the country in San Jose to share ideas, learn from proven prevention models, and strengthen our work to build a targeted homelessness prevention system that keeps people housed and stable. Together, we’re moving upstream to create lasting solutions for Alaskans at risk of homelessness.

Let's bring our community together to create a competitive application for the FY26 HUD Continuum of Care Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).

This year’s NOFO looks very different than past ones. Priorities are treatment, self-sufficiency and public safety. Nationwide, one-third of the grant funds will go to new project types that have not been previously funded: transitional housing and supportive services only projects such as street outreach, clinics or childcare.

Join us for a communitywide meeting of those interested in these grants for local projects that can change lives. First-time applicants encouraged!

Meeting date: Friday, June 5, 1 p.m.
Virtual: https://bit.ly/26NOFOmeeting
In person: Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness office, 3427 E. Tudor Road, Suite A, Anchorage, AK 99507

Learn more, download the NOFO, and get a link for a HUD webinar on Thursday: aceh.org/nofo

🏠 Big news! Housing Alaskans is funding 77 new homes across 13 Alaska communities. And for the first time, one of the projects supported by Housing Alaskans is in Anchorage! It's Airport Heights Senior Housing.

Alaskans from Chevak to Sitka will benefit. Teachers. Seniors. Workforce families.

Storm-impacted villages.

$1.5M in gap funding → leverages $60M+ → stalled projects move forward.

Alaska needs shovels in the ground. This is how you do it.

💙💙💙On this day of reflection, some good news:

🏡In the last year and a half, the number of veterans experiencing homelessness in Anchorage has dropped nearly 40%.

The good news: A January count suggests that the number of people in our community who have no safe place to sleep is dropping. More shelter space has opened, and more people are taking advantage of it.

The reality: Hundreds of people remain unsheltered: Sleeping outdoors, in tents, in doorways, in vehicles and in places not fit for anyone to live.

The crunch: Shelters are full, but that doesn’t mean more shelter is the answer. We need housing for those with very low incomes. Because housing IS the answer.

Thanks to the Anchorage Daily News for putting a spotlight on the situation. Read the story: https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/anchorage/2026/05/21/fewer-people-are-experiencing-homelessness-in-anchorage-as-providers-say-shelter-capacity-is-insufficient/

Our colleagues at the Downtown Soup Kitchen Hope Center want to expand their job training program by adding space through the purchase of this building to serve those who have experienced homelessness or are coming out of incarceration. The organization has grown from its start as a soup kitchen operating out of a little red house on Fourth Avenue to include shelter, transitional housing, culinary training, a food truck and more!

These programs provide needed opportunity for our unhoused neighbors.

Thanks to the Anchorage Daily News for the story.

The nonprofit wants to buy Plaza 201, a three-story office building located across the street from the Downtown Hope Center’s main women’s shelter and soup kitchen.
