Cook Inlet Native Head Start

Here in Alaska, Head Start programs work every day to help children learn and grow, connect families with important resources, and give parents the support they need to pursue their goals.

During Head Start Awareness Month, I’m proud to recognize Head Start programs across Alaska for the difference they make for our children, our families and our community.

October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize the children, families, educators, and staff who make Head Start such an important part of communities across the country.

For more than 60 years, Head Start has helped children build a strong foundation for school and life while supporting parents and families along the way.

I’m proud to recognize Head Start Awareness Month and the people who make this program possible every day.

Today CINHS Staff Members and students honored Indigenous boarding school survivors by wearing orange shirts on Every Child Matters Day 🧡 our very own ERSEA Specialist, Mary Shanigan, was one of those survivors and we honor and appreciate her hard work every day! 🙏🏽🧡

You do not have to be a policy expert to comment on proposed changes to Head Start.

Anyone can submit a public comment, including parents, caregivers, staff, alumni, and community members. Sharing a personal experience can help federal decision-makers understand how proposed changes could affect real Head Start children, families, and programs.

Not sure where to start? This step-by-step How to Comment Guide explains the process and offers tips for writing a meaningful comment.

Download the guide and make your voice heard: https://nhsa.org/nprm-resources/how-to-speak-up-for-head-start/submit-a-public-comment/

There are proposed changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards, and we want parents and caregivers in our Head Start community to have clear information about what those changes could mean.

NHSA created a Parent Guide to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that explains the proposal in plain language, including potential changes related to health services, disability supports, eligibility, classroom requirements, and opportunities for parents to have a voice in their program.

Parents and caregivers: Read the guide, learn what is being proposed, and find out how you can make your voice heard: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14C78n4z8lDCQF4TFOnqAL-5mkO1m3yJF/view
