Is it really a deal? Run 4 checks before you tap buy.

1. Was it on your list? If not, it's a new expense, not a saving.

2. Check the unit price. Compare the price per ounce or per item, not the big number.

3. Check one other store. Same item, same size. It takes about a minute.

4. Check the return window. Amazon says eligible items bought Nov 1 through Dec 31, 2026 can be returned until Jan 31, 2027. Other stores set their own rules, so check each one.

Target's early Black Friday sale runs Nov. 5–7, so this week is a good time to practice.

60-Second Money Habit #3: check the unit price.

The big number on the shelf tag is the package price. The small number is the price per ounce, per pound or per count. That's the one to compare.

Bigger isn't always cheaper. In one SoFi price check, a 33.7 oz tub of coffee cost $11.87 per pound, while the 25.9 oz tub cost $10.50 per pound.

Read the sale tags, too. A sale on the small size can beat the bulk size.

Buy bulk only if you'll use it before it goes bad.
