Our team made its last stop on the Come Hell or High Water tour in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 26.

Hurricane Helene devastated North Carolina in 2024. Then officials had to adapt for upcoming elections as they rebuilt their communities. Voter turnout increased that year. We spent the evening at Park Tavern in Asheville honoring those officials.

Vet the Vote made a pit stop in Nevada for a NASCAR weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway!

We connected with military veterans and their families to encourage them to step up and continue their service as poll workers.

5 reasons why midterm elections matter

1. YOU DECIDE WHO CONTROLS CONGRESS
Voters choose who controls the House and Senate. Poll workers make sure every one of those choices gets cast and counted.

2. EVERY HOUSE SEAT IS ON THE BALLOT
All 435 seats are up. That's a full slate of races in every community, and every polling place needs a trained team to run it.

3. IT'S NOT JUST CONGRESS
Governors, Secretaries of State, Attorneys General, and judges can all be on the ballot. Longer ballots mean more questions at the polls, and poll workers are the ones who help voters through them.

4. LOCAL RACES NEED LOCAL HANDS
Midterms put your state and county on the line. Poll workers are your neighbors, serving the community they live in.

5. IT'S YOUR MIDTERM REVIEW

Three weeks after Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County held an election and turnout went up. In a new op-ed for the Asheville Citizen-Times, Vet the Vote's Ellen Gustafson explains how, drawing on what election officials shared at our Come Hell or High Water event in Asheville.

The county rebuilt its plan around the trained workers it could count on, and those workers showed up while still dealing with storm damage of their own. As Ellen writes, the most important piece of election infrastructure isn't a machine or a statute, it's a neighbor willing to help other neighbors vote.

The Vet the Vote team has been busy these past few weeks showing up for our military community. On 9/18, Jenalyn Lazana joined the Arizona National Guard at their Resilience Day Dodgeball Tournament and Resource Fair, connecting with Guard members and their families about serving as poll workers and getting involved in civic life. We're grateful to AZNG for having us, and we're looking forward to sharing more of where our team has been.
