We will begin by commemorating Navy veterans with a wreath laying ceremony at the US Navy Memorial Plaza’s iconic Lone Sailor Statue.

Vice Admiral John B. Nowell Jr., USN (Ret.) will deliver opening remarks before a screening of Flag Day in the Navy Memorial Auditorium.

Navy veteran and film participant Albert Brayboy Jr. will join filmmakers Melissa Shea and Andrew Shea for a post screening Q+A, moderated by We the Veterans & Military Families Co-Founder and Executive Director Ellen Gustafson.

Peter Meloro, Army veteran & poll worker, was working in uptown Manhattan when September 11, 2001, occurred. Today, he continues his service as a tour guide at the New Jersey Vietnam Memorial & Museum, helping others understand and honor the sacrifices of those who served.

Ben Keiser, USMC veteran & WtVMF Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, was a reservist on drill duty when the first tower was struck on September 11th. As the news broke, his first thought was his mother, who was in Manhattan that day. In the hours it took to reach her, he found himself confronting a realization: the future he'd imagined for his service was about to change.

Ellen Gustafson, Executive Director & Co-Founder of WtVMF, was a student at Columbia University when 9/11 happened. She was in the city that day, and remembers the moment the realization set in that this was an attack. That experience set her on a path toward a career in foreign relations, one that eventually connected her to the military community she now calls home, both professionally and as a Navy spouse.
