STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT
Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executive Association
Regarding the Line of Duty Death of Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Terrian Bailey
It is with profound sadness that I, as President of the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executive Association, extend our deepest condolences following the line of duty death of Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Terrian Bailey.
Our hearts and prayers are first and foremost with Deputy Bailey’s wife, Detranell Bailey, their children, and the entire Bailey family. No words can adequately describe the weight carried by a family when their loved one leaves home to serve the community and does not return.
We also stand with Sheriff Edward Good and every member of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office as they mourn the loss of one of their own. In a small or rural law enforcement agency, coworkers are rarely just coworkers. They become family. They know one another’s spouses, children, struggles, and dreams. When one chair becomes empty, that absence is felt throughout the entire agency and community.
Deputy Bailey was known as a charismatic deputy whose personality and spirit touched many of the people he encountered. His death is a painful reminder of the sacrifices made every day by the men and women who wear the badge, particularly those serving our nation’s small and rural communities.
Across America, there are deputies and officers patrolling vast areas with limited personnel and resources, often knowing that their nearest backup may be miles away. Yet they continue to answer the call because their communities depend upon them. When one of these officers falls, the loss does not belong to one agency, one county, or one state. It is felt throughout the law enforcement family.
Today, our association mourns with Mississippi.
We ask the law enforcement community across this nation to keep Deputy Bailey’s family and the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office in their thoughts and prayers, not only during the funeral and ceremonies that will follow, but in the weeks and months afterward, when the crowds have gone home and this family and agency must begin navigating life without him.
May God grant Detranell and their children strength when their own strength feels insufficient. May He comfort Sheriff Good and the men and women of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office. And may He continue to watch over every law enforcement officer who puts on the uniform and leaves home each day to protect someone else’s family.
Deputy Terrian Bailey’s watch may have ended, but his service, sacrifice, and memory will endure.
On behalf of the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executive Association, we extend our love, prayers, and unwavering support to the Bailey family, Sheriff Edward Good, and the entire Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office.
Rest in peace, Deputy Terrian Bailey. We have the watch from here.
