A new chapter of leadership for BirthNet New York! 🤎

As we celebrate 25 years of advocating for equitable birth outcomes and supporting birthing families, we’re excited to share two important leadership announcements!

🤎 Meet our incoming Board Chair, Tabitha Cropper!

Inspired by her own birth experience, Tabitha joined BirthNet with a passion for increasing the number of Black and Brown doulas supporting families in our communities.

As our Marketing & Events Director, she’s helped grow our events, partnerships, and community connections. Now, she’s preparing to lead BirthNet’s board into its next chapter!

🤎 Introducing our first-ever Maternal Health Equity Director, Tershia Ellis!

Thanks to a grant from the Touhey Foundation, BirthNet is expanding its maternal health equity work through this newly established position.

Tershia brings years of experience advocating for maternal health equity, and this new role will allow her to build on that work while creating more opportunities to support doulas and birthing families.

Two incredible women. Two exciting leadership transitions. One continued commitment to healthier, more equitable birth experiences.

Exodus Initiative provides practical support for everyday needs, including Community Laundry Days, hygiene and personal care items through Helping Hands, warm meals and other community resources.

Our goal is simple: make useful resources easier to access and make sure our community knows they’re here.

Last Friday, we had the chance to join Albany Young Professionals for their 2nd Anniversary Mingle!

For 25 years, BirthNet has advocated for better birth outcomes. But the conversation cannot stop at delivery. 🤎
Postpartum recovery and mental health deserve more attention, especially in Black and Brown communities, where barriers to accessing quality maternal healthcare can make getting support even harder.
Postpartum depression, anxiety, and psychosis deserve recognition, timely care, and conversations free from stigma. No one should have to reach a crisis before their concerns are taken seriously.
Doulas are part of that continuum of care, offering education, advocacy, and support throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
Everyone deserves a doula. Everyone deserves postpartumcare.
