BirthNet was proud to be part of Say It Loud! BIPOC Pride this past weekend in Albany.

Birth justice is about more than healthcare—it’s about ensuring that all people and families are treated with dignity, respect, and support. Events like BIPOC Pride create opportunities for connection, celebration, and community, and we’re grateful to have been part of it.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared a conversation, picked up resources, or learned more about BirthNet’s work.

We’ll be continuing that community connection this Saturday, June 20, at the Juneteenth Celebration on Rensselaer Street in Albany from 11 AM–6 PM. Stop by our table to learn more about BirthNet, connect with our team, and celebrate a day dedicated to freedom, culture, resilience, and community.

These photos highlight the organizations, birth workers, advocates, and community members who came together at DoulaPalooza 2026 to share resources, build relationships, and strengthen support for families throughout our region.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing so many people gathered in one space, connecting with one another and learning more about the services, programs, and support available within our community.

If doulas don’t deliver babies, what do they do?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and after birth. They don’t replace your doctor or midwife, and they don’t deliver your baby. Instead, they help you understand your options, advocate for your preferences, navigate unexpected situations, and ensure you never have to face the experience alone.

Research has shown that doulas can improve birth experiences and outcomes by helping families feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout the process.

The truth is, most people don’t learn what a doula does until they’re already pregnant. We believe that conversation should start much sooner.

We were honored to celebrate alongside advocates, healthcare leaders, community partners, and supporters who are committed to improving health outcomes across our region.

Real change happens when families are given the opportunity to share their stories.

Yesterday, a Jubilant Birth Albany mom stood alongside leaders and advocates at Governor Hochul’s press event on lowering costs for families, helping bring real experiences into an important statewide conversation.

At BirthNet NY, we believe the people most impacted by maternal and infant health policies should have a voice in shaping them. We’re proud to see community members stepping into that role and helping move birth equity forward.
