Today, we’re proud to release the most comprehensive economic impact study ever conducted on the Empire State Trail!

The 750-mile Empire State Trail generates $1.87 billion in annual economic activity, attracts 9.75 million visits every year, brings in $206 million in tax revenue and supports nearly 9,700 jobs–just to name a few key findings.

For years, we've seen how trails strengthen communities, support local businesses, improve public health, and connect people to the outdoors. Now, we have the data to prove it.

Big wins for New York’s public lands!

Thanks to strong advocacy from communities, partners, and supporters across the state, the final NYS budget delivers meaningful investments that will help keep our public lands accessible for all New Yorkers.

🌱 $425 million Environmental Protection Fund
🌱 $340 million for State Parks
🌱 $114 million for the DEC
🌱 $2.65 million for the Park and Trail Partnership Grant program
🌱 $28.75 million for the Municipal Parks Program
β€‹β€‹πŸŒ± $3.8 million for Connect Kids to Parks

These investments matter. New York’s public lands welcome millions of visitors every year, support local economies, improve public health, and connect people of all ages to the outdoors.

Together, we’re building a future where every New Yorker can experience the benefits of outdoor recreation close to home.

Have you heard of the Southern Tier Trail? This emerging vision for Western New York has the potential to transform former rail corridors into a connected outdoor experience.

One of the most exciting parts of this project is the growing collaboration behind it. Local leaders, trail advocates, planners, and community organizations are all helping shape what the future of the Southern Tier could look like.
