Help shape the future of active transportation in New York!

The New York State Department of Transportation is developing an Active Transportation Strategic Plan to help create a connected, accessible transportation network for people of all ages and abilities.

Join one of four upcoming public information meetings to help shape the strategies and actions that will guide the plan:

📍 Sept. 1 | Albany — 5:30–7 p.m.
📍 Sept. 2 | Rochester — 5–6:30 p.m.
📍 Sept. 3 | Hauppauge — 5–6:30 p.m.
💻 Sept. 4 | Virtual — 12–1:30 p.m.

Better transportation starts with listening to the people who use it.

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment here at Parks & Trails New York, and we're grateful to be learning alongside incredible partners who are helping us create more inclusive outdoor experiences.

Through our partnership with Rochester Accessible Adventures and participation in the NYPA/NYS Canal Corporation Accessibility Education Program, our team has completed specialized accessibility and inclusion training and continues to incorporate those principles into our programs, partnerships, and organizational practices.

Boy, do we have a treat for you! 🦴

Did you know your furry friend can become a B.A.R.K. Ranger? The B.A.R.K. Ranger program is a fun, nationwide initiative that encourages responsible recreation with pets. By taking the B.A.R.K. pledge, you and your pet promise to:

🐾 Bag your waste
🐾 Always wear a leash
🐾 Respect wildlife
🐾 Know where you can go

Many parks celebrate your pet's accomplishment with a certificate, prize, or official B.A.R.K. Ranger recognition after completing the pledge. At John Boyd Thacher State Park, you can stop by the Visitor Center to take the pledge and receive a certificate and prize.

We stopped by Rochester for the Genesee River Alliance's Bridging Communities summer celebration!

Thank you to everyone who visited our table to chat with us about what brings you to Rochester's parks and trails. Hearing your stories and seeing people come together to celebrate these shared spaces is a reminder of why we do what we do.

Community is at the heart of every public land and events like this show how public spaces really bring people together. We were grateful to spend the day with all of you at the beautiful High Falls State Park!

And just like that… we made it!

Day 5 of Cycle the Hudson Valley brought us 33.4 miles from Dobbs Ferry to the finish line in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Riders followed the Hudson River Greenway past some of NYC’s iconic waterfront sights, crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, and finished up at Strong Rope Brewing in Red Hook to celebrate.

Five days and more than 200 miles. We’re so grateful to everyone who rode, supported, cheered, and helped make this year’s Cycle the Hudson Valley one to remember.

And a special shoutout to our rider David who captured these great photos from the final day!

40 miles down, one day to go!

Today, we made our way from Carmel to Dobbs Ferry, following the Putnam Trailway as we continued south toward New York City. Along the route, riders passed Lake Gleneida, rode by the Sybil Ludington statue (honoring the 16-year-old Revolutionary War heroine who rode through the night to warn local militia) and crossed historic rail corridors before hitting the Croton Reservoir.

We wrapped up the day at The Master's School for the final overnight stay before tomorrow's ride into NYC. Over the past 4 days, we've watched the landscape change and now we're just outside the city.

One more ride to go! Thank you to everyone who's been following along and cheering on our riders. We'll see you at the finish!

If you're going to have a longest day, this was the way to do it!

Day 3 of Cycle the Hudson Valley brought the biggest mileage of the tour (65.3 miles from Stone Ridge to Carmel), but it never felt like we were just counting miles. The ride moved from the quiet stretches of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail to the sky-high Rosendale Trestle on to New Paltz and across the iconic Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park.

After that, riders kept pushing south stopping at the Hopewell Depot Museum, crossed the Appalachian Trail, and by Whaley Lake before making the final approach into Carmel.
