💉Through the 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀® 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 (CDiC) program, led by the Valenzuela City Health Office, children with Type 1 Diabetes from Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Rizal have accessed a three-month supply of insulin refills, glucose meters, and HbA1c testing kits.🩺

💖In this video, 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗼, CDiC’s Community Mobilizer, explains how providing life-saving insulin and essential medical supplies helps families reduce out-of-pocket expenses and ensures continuous access to healthcare.

With the support of Novo Nordisk Philippines and in partnership with Roche Diabetes Care, children in Valenzuela City (Luzon), Iloilo City and Iloilo Province (Visayas), and the Davao Region (Mindanao) will gain access to life-saving insulin, essential medical supplies, quality healthcare, and comprehensive education on diabetes management, empowering them to manage their condition with confidence and pursue the futures they envision.

⭐This project aims to empower 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 in Quezon City and Valenzuela City in Metro Manila, as well as in Cainta, Rizal, by improving their access to meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

👩🏻‍🦽According to the 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆, 78% of persons with disabilities were either unemployed or engaged in the informal sector at the time of the survey, while only 19% were formally employed. Despite the provisions of the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities, significant barriers to the full participation of youth with disabilities continue to persist.👩🏻‍🦯

𝗔𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆. Strengthening their confidence in daily diabetes management and accurate insulin dosing can help reduce anxiety and fear, ultimately improving the quality of life not only for the child but for the entire family.

❤️Doctors and nurses in Davao Occidental strengthened their knowledge and understanding of 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟭 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 through a specialized training under the Changing Diabetes in Children program. 🧑🏽‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️

💉Type 1 Diabetes is a life-changing condition that affects not only children, but also their families. Without proper support and access to care, managing the condition can become psychologically, socially, physically, and financially challenging.

Effective diabetes management requires a whole-community approach, where proactive and well-equipped healthcare providers play a critical role in helping children with Type 1 Diabetes live healthy and quality lives.🏡

✋🏼Through this training, doctors and nurses were equipped with essential knowledge and practical skills to provide better patient care, identify early signs and complications, and support long-term diabetes management. The initiative also contributes to strengthening the province’s diabetes healthcare system, leading to more inclusive, responsive, and effective care for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

🌋 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲

🧹As Mayon Volcano continues to show magmatic unrest, the 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 provided community cleaning kits to the six most affected barangays in Camalig, Albay.🪣

✋🏼The cleaning kits will help communities safely remove volcanic ash and debris, promote cleaner and safer living conditions in evacuation centers, and reduce health risks associated with ash exposure.

While the road to recovery remains uncertain as the volcano stays under Alert Level 3, humanitarian actors such as the ACCESS Project continue to work closely with local government units to deliver life-saving assistance and support the most affected families.

🌋 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲

💧A total of 𝟮𝟳𝟬 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴, 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮𝘆 have received much-needed toiletries, solar lamps, face masks, and other hygiene essentials from the 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 while they remain unable to return home due to the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano.😷

Since January this year, the volcano has continued to erupt effusively, disrupting economic and social activities and causing anxiety among nearby communities.

⚠️According to the Office of Civil Defense, displacement during the 2023 unrest lasted for up to six months. This year, it remains uncertain how long families will need to stay in evacuation centers. As conditions persist, vulnerable households face growing health and safety risks, especially those with limited access to basic needs and income.

✋🏼In response, the ACCESS Project remains on the ground, working closely with local government units to deliver life-saving support to the most affected families.

Sa patuloy na pag-aalburuto ng Bulkang Mayon, umabot na sa 70,150 pamilya ang naitalang apektado sa 13 munisipyo sa Bicol, ayon sa Department of Social Welfare and Development.

🌋Nananatili sa Alert Level 3 ang bulkan, na nangangahulugang may mataas na antas ng aktibidad tulad ng pagdaloy ng lava, mga volcanic earthquake, at pagbuga ng tinatayang 2,184 toneladang sulfur dioxide kada araw.

Narito ang ilang mga hakbang na maaaring gawin upang maprotektahan ang pamilya, lalo na ang mga miyembro na may dati nang sakit sa paghinga o karamdaman sa puso. 😷

𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲, a 14-year-old living with type 1 diabetes, shared how attending the 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽 helped him develop greater self-awareness and improve his diabetes management skills. Despite living with the condition for two years, he gained new learnings that strengthened his ability to manage his condition independently and with confidence.

Promoting independence, self-choice, and self-awareness, 20 children with Type 1 Diabetes from Luzon recently graduated from a diabetes camp, an interactive and fun program providing comprehensive education on managing Type 1 Diabetes.

Organized by Rainbow Camp Foundation Philippines in partnership with Changing Diabetes in Children, the camp ensures that children, regardless of age, have the right to understand their condition, learn practical self-care skills, and confidently manage their health.

𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗼, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Field Specialist of Humanity & Inclusion, discussed what 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (IHA) means and why it is an essential practice for humanitarian workers.

📢During emergencies, vulnerable populations such as persons with disabilities, older persons, and children are often the most affected, driving them further into disadvantaged situations.

⛑️Through the IHA training, the 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 strengthened the capacities of humanitarian workers and local government units, enabling them to better provide inclusive and accessible humanitarian assistance and services and ensure that no one is left behind during emergencies.
