Finally, 72 households at the Mama Nawa Elementary School evacuation center in Barangay Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani, have access to clean water for daily use.

Magungaya Mindanao, Incorporated, Community Organizers Multiversity - CO Multiversity, United Youth of the Philippines-Women, People's Disaster Risk Reduction Network, Inc., and Oxfam Pilipinas completed the installation of a water tank at the evacuation center on 12 June, as part of their humanitarian response to the most vulnerable and affected communities by the recent and its aftershocks.

The affected households have reported disrupted access to water due to damaged water sources and sanitation facilities. When people are displaced and live in close or crowded shelters, infectious diseases can quickly spread.

Having access to clean water also helps evacuees prevent infections and diseases and maintain hygiene, thereby protecting their health, especially that of the elderly people, pregnant and lactating women, children, and persons with disabilities. This makes it hard for them to go about their daily lives.

The destroyed the water sources of residents in Malapatan, Sarangani, compounding the challenges faced by displaced families staying in evacuation centers or in makeshift shelters by the road, or next to their damaged houses. In lowland communities, residents reported damaged toilets and water facilities, while upland communities experienced water discoloration due to water shaking.

Some roads are still impassable, leaving a number of affected communities isolated and significantly restricting the delivery and distribution of life-saving relief supplies and services.

When communities face a severe shortage of potable water and overburdened toilet and sanitation facilities, they can suffer from waterborne diseases, which can further strain local healthcare facilities that are running short of critical supplies.

To help address the risk of increased waterborne diseases, we co-conducted a hygiene promotion session for 562 individuals, including 225 members of the Sigay Tri-People Association, in Malapatan, Sarangani.

We also provided 451 hygiene kits and 120 water kits to households whose homes were completely damaged in Barangays Tuyan, Sapu Masla, and Poblacion to help them put what they learned into practice and ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for daily use.

Many residents are still living in unsafe conditions. Help our teamโ€”Magungaya Mindanao, Incorporated, Community Organizers Multiversity - CO Multiversity, United Youth of the Philippines-Women, People's Disaster Risk Reduction Network, Inc., and Oxfam Pilipinasโ€”urgently provide the much-needed mental health and psychosocial support, safe shelters, access to water and sanitation facilities, and support for livelihood, education, and other needs that will help them get back to their feet.

The EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid-funded project distributed urgently needed 50 hygiene kits and 50 water kits to households in Barangay Acmonan, Tupi, South Cotabato, on 12 June 2026.

Largely home to the Indigenous Blaan community, Barangay Acmonan is one of 15 barangays in Tupi heavily affected by the recent magnitude 7.8 . Many families have been facing critical shortages of clean drinking water and essential household supplies as aftershocks continue to be felt.

ACCESS continues to deliver humanitarian assistance, reaching the most vulnerable groups in hard-to-access communities amid compounding crises, including ongoing aftershocks and heightened risks during the typhoon season.

Response: Displaced families face risks and uncertainties

Families are doing everything they can to survive, from preparing basic meals over open fires to fetching water by hand. But for the 72 displaced households staying at the Mama Nawa Elementary School Evacuation Center in Malapatan, Sarangani, ensuring daily proper nutrition, clean drinking water, and protection from relentless aftershocks is far from certain. The risk of illness and fear of the next tremor weigh heavily on them.

Magungaya Mindanao, Incorporated, Community Organizers Multiversity - CO Multiversity, United Youth of the Philippines-Women, People's Disaster Risk Reduction Network, Inc., and Oxfam Pilipinas visited the evacuation center on 10 June 2026 to listen to the evacueesโ€™ needs.

There are no toilets or bathing facilities in the evacuation center. Residents must travel to a distant creek to wash and care for themselves. Women and girls speak of fear and discomfort and wish for privacy and dignity amid the crisis.

Oxfam Pilipinas and partners are working closely with the affected communities for timely humanitarian assistance. As drought and the monsoon season approach, our commitment is to deliver life-saving aid to the most vulnerable and affected communities reeling from the impact of the earthquake.

"Sayang Ang Araw: Gawing Mura Ang Solar": Oxfam Pilipinas joined civil
society organizations, advocates, industry
representatives, and community members in urging the Philippine
government to empower Filipinos with greater access to solar energy as
an affordable, reliable, and secure energy source which would also bring relief from high electricity prices and recurring power interruptions.

We join the calls for improved affordability and accessibility of
and to help more Filipinos take control of
their energy sources and costs while building a cleaner and more resilient energy future for the country.

While our teams are responding to communities affected by the , we are also taking proactive measures alongside families facing increasing threats from and the impending .

As Mayon Volcanoโ€™s unrest reaches its sixth month, families in Albay grapple daily with volcanic ash in their homes, even as prolonged dry conditions impact their health and safety. With El Niรฑo expected to grow more intense in the coming months, these combined risks, including rising temperatures and uncertain water supply, are already straining household resources and living conditions.

To help families even before El Niรฑoโ€™s most severe effects occur, Oxfam Pilipinas and MIDAS/Mayon Integrated Development Alternatives and Services,Inc. distributed cleaning kits to 200 families in Barangay Masarawag and provided cash-for-hygiene assistance to 200 families in Barangay Maipon, Guinobatan, on June 5 and 11, 2026.

The cleaning kits assist households in maintaining safer, cleaner homes amid continued ashfall, while the cash support allows families to buy essential hygiene supplies before conditions worsen further.

Oxfam Pilipinas and partners have been supporting communities in Albay that are displaced and in expanded danger zones of Mayon Volcano since January 2026; and we are now taking early action to lessen the expected impacts of El Niรฑo on already vulnerable households.
