Sandiwa Network of Advocates for Indigenous Peoples and Moro Communities

For decades, national minorities, our indigenous and Moro brothers and sisters, have been linking arms with others sectors in urban centers to raise their call for the recognition of their right to ancestral land and self-determination. In response and because of the continuing violation of IP and Moro peoples’ collective and basic human rights, various groups of advocates have been formed to assist, support, give services to peoples’ organizations and local communities. Concerned individuals, with their own varying capacity and commitment have also extended their support. These efforts done by the advocates had legitimized the call and further strengthened the movement of the national minorities.

OUR MOUNTAINS ARE NOT SACRIFICE ZONES
A Statement of Solidarity with Indigenous Communities Opposing Pax Silica

The Sandiwa Network stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities defending their ancestral domains, lands, waters, and lifeways against projects that threaten their rights and self-determination.

Pax Silica is being promoted as a pathway to technological progress and economic growth. Yet behind the promise of innovation lies a growing demand for critical minerals, energy, water, and land—resources often found in Indigenous territories. We reject the notion that technological advancement justifies environmental destruction, displacement, and the dispossession of Indigenous Peoples.

The proposed Pax Silica Economic Security Zone under the Luzon Economic Corridor raises serious concerns about land grabbing, extractive industries, environmental degradation, and the further militarization of rural and Indigenous communities. No project can be called development if it advances at the expense of ancestral domains, ecological integrity, and the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) of Indigenous Peoples.

Around the world, the race for critical minerals has already left Indigenous and rural communities facing intensified mining, pollution, water depletion, and displacement. We refuse to allow the same pattern to be repeated in the Philippines.

Development must serve the Filipino people—not foreign strategic interests, geopolitical competition, or the demands of global supply chains. Indigenous territories are not strategic assets to be traded for profit, security, or geopolitical advantage. They are living homelands, sources of identity and culture, and foundations of collective survival.

We join Indigenous Peoples, people’s organizations, environmental defenders, and concerned citizens in calling for transparency and accountability regarding Pax Silica and related initiatives; the protection of ancestral domains and critical ecosystems; respect for Indigenous self-determination and FPIC; and the defense of Indigenous leaders and communities from militarization, harassment, and repression.

Our mountains are not sacrifice zones. Our ancestral domains are not for sale.

Stand with Indigenous communities. Defend ancestral lands. Oppose Pax Silica.

“Hindi krimen ang magligtas ng bata. Hindi krimen ang magturo.”

SANDIWA stands with Save Our Schools Mindanao and the Lumad people in demanding justice for the Talaingod 13. The truth is clear: they did not harm Lumad children—they helped save them. Yet those who protected children and defended their right to education are the ones being punished, while those behind threats, displacement, and violence remain unaccountable.

This unjust conviction is an attack on Lumad schools, Indigenous education, and the right of Indigenous Peoples to land, dignity, and self-determination. We reiterate: Saving Lumad children is not a crime. Teaching is not a crime. Defending Indigenous communities is not a crime.

Reverse the unjust conviction of the Talaingod 13. Reopen Lumad schools. Stand with Lumad communities. Fight for justice.

Message SANDIWA on Facebook to coordinate support, solidarity actions, and advocacy for justice for the Talaingod 13 and Lumad communities.

SANDIWA stands with the transport strike and the people’s resistance against the worsening fuel and energy crisis. Imperialist war, oil cartel profiteering, and anti-people policies continue to drive prices up, while drivers, commuters, workers, peasants, fisherfolk, Indigenous Peoples, Moro communities, and the urban poor bear the heaviest burden.

We demand: Junk the Oil Deregulation Law. Remove VAT and excise tax on fuel and basic goods. Provide immediate, meaningful relief and subsidies for transport workers and poor communities. For Indigenous Peoples and Moro communities already facing dispossession, militarization, and deep economic marginalization, every oil price hike is another assault on livelihood, mobility, and survival.

The transport strike is a clear expression of public anger and must be met with stronger collective action and wider solidarity in the days ahead. We support efforts to expand protest actions, strengthen mutual aid, and hold the Marcos Jr. regime accountable for policies that favor foreign interests and big business over the people.

Support the transport strike and community pantry efforts. Donations in cash or kind are welcome. Message SANDIWA on Facebook for coordination.

People over profit. Oppose imperialist aggression. Advance the people’s struggle.
