Books are powerful tools for learning and protection! 📚

As we wrap up this year’s National Literacy Month, we recognize how reading can empower young people to learn about safety and respect for their boundaries, while helping them find the right words to speak up for themselves and their peers.

“𝘐𝘴𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘺-𝘢𝘳𝘪 𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯 𝘬𝘰: 𝘢𝘬𝘰!” This powerful line from 𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗸𝗼! gives children and youth clear, age-appropriate language to say no when something feels unsafe and uncomfortable. This, while providing parents, educators, social workers, and other adults with a practical tool for teaching body safety.

Co-developed by Consuelo with Adarna House, the book uses an engaging story to introduce children to protective concepts and simple but assertive words such as “𝙃𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞! 𝙃𝙪𝙬𝙖𝙜! 𝙏𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙡! 𝘼𝙮𝙤𝙠𝙤!”

Because when young people have the words, they have a stronger voice to set boundaries, seek help, and look out for one another. 🌹

As we open the last Annual Partners’ Meeting (APM) with our 2024-2026 partner cohort, let us look back on last year's gathering, Pagsibol: Hope in Action, on August 18-20. 🌱🫶

As our Managing Director Yella Castillo shared in her closing remarks: "What must remain constant is our collective action, our shared vigilance and our commitment to stand for and with the child, every step of the way... by simply showing up every single day, we are already doing a powerful act of advocacy for every child." ✨

As we embark on this final chapter together, we celebrate the relationships we have built, the lessons learned, and the lives touched. These will continue far beyond this APM and this partnership as we carry forward this shared mission of helping ensure in every child. 🌹

Binigyang-diin ni Child Rights Network (CRN) Convener at PLCPD Executive Director Au Quilala na pangunahing hamon na kinakaharap ng child rights advocates ngayon ang sumisikip na espasyo para sa pagtataguyod ng mga karapatan ng mga bata, sa General Assembly ng CRN noong Agosto 10.

Aniya, ang nararapat na tugon ay ang pagpapalakas ng ating mga sistema ng proteksyon, suporta, at pananagutan.

Nakikiisa ang Consuelo Foundation sa pahayag ng Child Rights Network (CRN) tungkol sa trahedyang naganap sa Ateneo de Zamboanga kahapon, Aug. 18.

Nakikiramay kami at nananalangin para sa paghilom ng mga nasaktan, ng mga pamilyang nawalan, at ng buong komunidad na lubos na naapektuhan.

Kaisa kami sa panawagan na panatilihing ligtas na espasyo ang bawat paaralan para sa lahat ng bata at kabataan. Sa panahon na ito ng pagdadalamhati, mamayani nawa ang pananagutan, pagkakaisa, at ang kapakanan ng bawat batang nasa kolektibo nating pangangalaga.

Taos-puso kaming nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang nawalan ng mahal sa buhay sa trahedyang naganap sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Kaisa rin kami sa pananalangin para sa paggaling ng mga nasaktan at sa paghilom ng buong komunidad. Nawa’y matagpuan ng mga naulila ang lakas at pag-asa sa gitna ng matinding dalamhati.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang opisyal na imbestigasyon, hinihikayat ang lahat na huwag magbahagi ng sensitibong mga larawan at video, hindi beripikadong impormasyon, o anumang haka-haka. Igalang natin ang privacy at dignidad ng mga biktima at kanilang pamilya, at sumangguni lamang sa mga opisyal at mapagkakatiwalaang pahayag.

Ang mga paaralan ay dapat maging ligtas na espasyo para sa lahat ng bata at kabataan. Nananawagan kami para sa mabilis, patas, at sensitibong imbestigasyon, sapat na psychosocial support sa mga apektado, at responsableng pagbabahagi ng impormasyon. Sa gitna ng dalamhati, pairalin natin ang malasakit, pananagutan, at pagkakaisa upang mapanatiling ligtas ang bawat bata. # # #

Ang FFE ay isang pamamaraan ng pagtukoy ng non-offending family members na may kakayahang magbigay ng kapaligirang ligtas 🛡️, mapag-aruga🌱, malayo sa muling pagdanas ng trauma (retraumatization) 🩹, at pinaka-angkop sa kapakanan ng batang nakaranas ng pang-aabuso, pagpapabaya, pagsasamantala, at diskriminasyon.

Layon ng training na ito na mapalawak ang kaalaman sa family-based care bilang pangunahing pamamaraan ng pangangalaga at paghilom para sa mga batang higit na nangangailangan nito. ❤️‍🩹

Sa diwa ng aming Family Strengthening Program 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, naniniwala ang Consuelo sa kakayahan ng mga mahal natin sa buhay na magbigay-kalinga at panibagong pag-asa sa mga sinumang nawalan nito. ✨

Years later, just like St. Therese, she has done exactly that. Lola Consuelo continues to shower the lives of countless children, families, and communities with hope, love, and the goodness of her heart. 💖

As we celebrate her life and legacy on her 112th birthday today, may we be reminded of her hopes and dreams and of our shared mission to promote the well-being of at-risk children, women, and families under our care. 🎉🌹

As dear Patti Lyons once shared in 2003, Lola Consuelo did not see herself as a fighter, but when it came to the foundation, she defied all odds. May we embody her dedication, compassion, and passion for the children, continuing her work until all the needs are filled. ✨

This day reminds us of the impact young people can make when given opportunities for growth, self-realization, and vital life skills. Empowered youth move beyond the self, helping build strong, resilient communities.

As shared in the Skills for Life Module 4, Commitment for Life: Solidifying Action Plans Toward Transformation:

"As they pursue their best versions through the best direction, they are also doing this to imbibe virtues and help the people around them. As they open and lead themselves to change, they are also serving as a catalyst of change to their society, country, and world.”

At Consuelo Foundation, we witness this through our work with our partners and through our Life Skills Plus initiatives, including Skills for Life - Life Skills for Employability (SFL-LSE). As young people embrace healing and transformation, they become hope-bearers themselves who lead change not only in their own lives but also among their peers, families, communities, and beyond. 🌹 Here's a little throwback to when we recognized the power and potential of young people to create positive change. ✨

Through our core programs, Consuelo supports and strengthens the work of these child protection heroes. Together with our ally professionals in the child protection sphere, we are building stronger systems, empowering communities, and creating a future for children and young people. ✨
