A very warm welcome to BioGro's new General Manager, Tania Thomas.

"The board of BioGro NZ is delighted to have appointed Tania to the role of General Manager, taking over from Ashley Smout who will be joining our board," said board chair Peter Harris. "Tania joins us with a fabulous toolkit of skills and experience that will benefit BioGro and the team."

Ms Thomas brings over three decades of experience across the primary industries, FMCG, retail and membership organisations.

In addition, she says: "Having grown up on Stewart Island, I have a deep connection to the organic sector and an appreciation for the people, processes and environments that underpin it.

"I’m focused on supporting the integrity and credibility of BioGro’s organic certification, while ensuring we continue to evolve to meet the needs of a growing and increasingly complex sector. This includes developing strategies to strengthen and develop our programmes, build trust in the BioGro mark, enhance the experience for our licensees and maintain our position as a respected voice in organics, both in New Zealand and internationally.

"I’m really looking forward to connecting with licensees, partners and the wider sector and working together to support the continued growth and success of organics."

If you're a Southland dairy farmer curious about organics, this one's for you.

Join Southern Organic Group and Fonterra Organic at Stephen and Annabel's farm in Clydevale next Thursday, 14 May, 10:30am-2pm, for a practical on-farm day all about what organic dairy farming really looks like on the ground.

NOTE: the RSVP was by yesterday Monday, 11 May but you might still sneak in! Be quick and email: [email protected]

You'll hear from Stephen about his conversion journey and his plans toward USDA and COR certification, plus a special visit from Taranaki organic dairy farmer Rachel Short, who'll be sharing her farm's real financial data from 8 years as a DairyNZ Budget Case Study farm. There's also a farm walk covering soils, pastures, and animal management, plus lunch provided.

With input costs rising and margins tightening, it's worth seeing what's working for farmers who've made the shift.

Organic exporters - this one's for you. Register now for this webinar on Friday 15 May, 7.30-8.30pm. Thanks to Organics Aotearoa New Zealand for hosting.

The Organic Standards Regulations and Organic Products and Production Regulations came into force in September 2025, a genuine achievement, and one OANZ has worked hard to support.
But the work is far from done.

NZ must negotiate a new equivalence arrangement with the EU by 2027 to retain market access to a global organic retail market worth over €145 billion, and growing.

The next Frontline Perspectives webinar brings together two experts to explore what other countries have done, and what NZ can learn.

🌱 Professor Nic Lampkin, EU organic policy research across member states
🌱 Alistair Schorn, the NZ context and what EU policy means for our exporters
🌱 Hosted by Brendan H***e

All welcome. Register here: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_sOd7SPgETkijXo1VQ7BbUg #/registration
