Wellington Young Professionals (WYP) is seeking a Treasurer to join the committee and support the financial stewardship of one of Wellington’s most established young professional communities.

The Treasurer plays an important role in ensuring the organisation’s finances are well managed, transparent, and sustainable. Working closely with the President and committee, the Treasurer helps ensure WYP can continue delivering networking events, professional development opportunities, and community initiatives for early-career professionals across Wellington.

This role is ideal for someone looking to gain governance experience within an incorporated society, strengthen their financial oversight skills, and contribute to a volunteer-driven organisation that supports young professionals in the region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining oversight of WYP’s financial accounts
• Managing income and expenditure related to events and operations
• Preparing financial summaries for committee meetings
• Monitoring the organisation’s financial position and ensuring good financial practices
• Supporting budgeting for events and initiatives
• Ensuring financial processes align with the responsibilities of an incorporated society

The time commitment for this role is relatively light, typically around one hour per fortnight, with occasional additional involvement around events or reporting periods.

You will be onboarded immediately and supported through a structured handover to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

This is a volunteer leadership role offering substantial professional growth, governance experience, and visibility within Wellington’s professional community. It is also a great opportunity to work alongside a motivated committee and contribute to a community that supports early-career professionals across the capital.

As Wellington Young Professionals continues to grow and evolve, I have made the decision to step down from the role of President and create space for new leadership to guide WYP into its next chapter.

My journey with WYP began as Event Manager, where I had the joy of curating events that brought young professionals together in meaningful and energising ways. Stepping into the presidency was a natural progression and an incredible privilege. Leading this organisation has strengthened my leadership skills, expanded my network, and allowed me to work alongside a passionate and committed committee.

Together, we have built consistent monthly networking events, created platforms for emerging leaders to share their stories, and fostered a supportive space for early career professionals navigating Wellington’s evolving job market. I am incredibly proud of what we have built and even more excited about what comes next.

As part of this transition, we are inviting expressions of interest for several leadership opportunities within Wellington Young Professionals, including President, Treasurer, and additional committee roles.

If you have been looking for a way to grow your governance experience, expand your professional network, and shape the future of a vibrant community, this is your moment. I would love to hear from you. Please reach out to [email protected] to express your interest and we can chat about what the role involves.

Serving as President has been an absolute honour. Thank you to everyone who has supported WYP and contributed to our community. I cannot wait to see the organisation continue to thrive in the year ahead.

Ngā mihi nui,
Jareen Fahmi
