Day 5 – Tākaro | Play - Theme: Wellbeing through play
Play is powerful. It builds confidence, connection, and resilience — and it's woven through so many of our programmes at Skylight.
Our team meets for ‘coffee and quiz’ to close out the week - Why not suggest to your friends or whānau a Kahoot quiz, a round of wharewhare (Māori bingo), or simply learn a new kupu.

Thanks for joining us this week in celebrating Te Reo Māori — Ake, Ake, Ake, a forever language, and a forever part of who we are. Kia kaha te reo Māori!

Something has happened - This book helps young children who are facing tough times.

It is a popular activity book for young children, 3 - 6 years and helps them find words and ways to express and begin to process what it is that's happened to them or to someone they care about.

It has been designed to be personalised by each child, so it fits any difficult situation. There are guidelines on every page for a parent or carer as they help a child with the book.

Day 4 – Pānui | Read - Theme: Stories and connection
Stories help tamariki make sense of their world — stories in Te Reo Māori carry identity, whakapapa, and belonging, alongside the words themselves.
This week, pick up a pukapuka reo Māori to read with your tamariki, or spend ten minutes reading one yourself. Even a bilingual picture book is a beautiful place to start. Reading together is one of the simplest ways to build connection — something we see the value of every day in our work with tamariki and whānau.
Ake, Ake, Ake – a forever language.

Day 3 – Waiata | Sing - Theme: Music as expression
Waiata carries emotion in a way words alone sometimes can't — and that is exactly why music therapy is part of what we offer at Skylight. This week, take a moment to listen to a waiata in Te Reo Māori. Notice how it makes you feel. If you're with tamariki, sing along together — there's no wrong way to do it!
