We are very used to the long weekends bringing quieter events to Waitangi parkrun. Locals tend to flock away in various directions choosing multi-day tramping, visiting relatives, or simply getting out of the city. So, naturally, we expected our attendance numbers to drop this Saturday. And they did drop β¦by 2, going from 510 last week down to 508 this morning π Given that only 81 were first timers and visitors, we can attribute this extraordinary turnout on a long weekend to the ridiculous fuel prices and AirNZ flight cuts π€ Why go somewhere and spend a crazy amount of money when you can enjoy a free and perfectly fantastic start to the weekend on Wellington waterfront? π
We hope everyone did have a great parkrun and thanks again for choosing Waitangi parkrun to kick off your Kingβs Birthday weekend π
We are also saying big thank you for todayβs event to our 25 amazing volunteers making the magic happen on the course and behind the scenes: Barry Hodges (RD), Walter Somerville, Ellan Young, Sarah Fountain, Craig Anderson, Evelyn O'Brien, Karen Baker, Robert Cole, Ann Kendon, Elliott Lowe, Chris Mead, Eli Tanoi, Sam Turner, Joseph Peacock, Jacqueline Cope, Patrick Morgan, Tee Akavi, Liz Morrison, Norsaiful Rosli, Kambata Tshasuma, Catherine Vernon, Lisa McGrath, Emily Lowe, Yuliya Bozhko, and Graham Jenson π§‘π¦Ίπ There were some new faces on the roster this week and we really appreciate your help π
We had a royal selection of milestones this morning:
π€ Kate Fingleton joined a junior j10 milestone club π€©
π Paul Hewitson, James Griffin, Luke Falvey, Matthew Huynh, Thomas Shaw, Nicole Egan, Stephen Blum, and Paris Gleeson β all started their day with tackling their 25th event πͺ
β€οΈ Surbhi Negi did a great job completing 50th parkrun event π
π€ Tom Pullar-Strecker can now invest in a new running attire after crossing the finish line for the 100th time π₯³
𧑠Mark Keegan reached an unofficial, but still amazing 150th milestone π
Well done, everyone! π You can relax for the rest of the weekend knowing you achieved something special π€
