After a constant drum beat of rain on our roofs over the past two days, on Saturday morning we woke up to the stars winking at us from the clearing skies ✨ How many goats did we collectively sacrifice for this miracle? πŸ˜‚ Rain dwindled to a tiny drizzle and cleared up pretty quick once 381 parkrunners and parkwalkers set off on their way along the freshly washed waterfront. Among the 381 finishers this morning were 43 first timers: 11 complete parkrun newbies and 32 visitors from other locations. We hope you enjoyed your first Wellington parkrun experience 😊

Some fantastic milestones to celebrate this morning:

πŸ’œ Emily Lowe tailwalked to her v25 volunteering milestone! Emily completed 13 Waitangi parkruns, but helped out on 25 occasions. That's some impressive volunteer ratio. Thanks a lot for all your help, Emily! πŸ€—

❀️ Seb Hart and Emma Holmes completed their 50th event! 🀩

πŸ’œ Steve James, Hayden Smith, Anna Woods, and Vivek Lala are the newly minted 25th milestone holders πŸ’ͺ

🀍 Mercedes Hill -- well done on your fist junior achievement of 10 completed events πŸ‘

🧑 Jocelyn Fountain reached a great number of 400 completed events! When you look at it, 500 doesn't seem that far away, eh? πŸ˜… Well done, Jocelyn! πŸ₯³

🧑 Lincoln Thomson completed 200th parkrun this morning! It's not an official milestone (yet), but no less spectacular achievement. Great work, Lincoln! πŸ‘

Anyone interested in joining the forces in setting up a new parkrun across the harbour? 😊

Anyone interested in joining the forces in setting up a new parkrun across the harbour? 😊

A few of our keen parkrunners are looking at setting up a new parkrun event just over the hill in Wainuiomata!
The start-up crew are in advanced planning with parkrun HQ, and are looking to pull together a core team of around 15 volunteers to help establish the new parkrun event. This is an exciting community project, and they are looking for people who can commit for at least the first few months to helping regularly while they get properly established.
They are looking for:
- 2 Event Directors
- 4 Run Directors
- 10 additional regular volunteers for a range of event roles.
The proposed 5k course will be based in the Hine Road recreational area, potentially following the Gum Loop track. The official name of the event, and the start date are yet to be decided.
If you’re keen to be part of something positive for the Wainuiomata community, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact the Lower Hutt parkrun team on [email protected] if you'd like to get involved and we will get you connected with the new Wainuiomata parkrun team.

We are very used to the long weekends bringing quieter events to Waitangi parkrun. Locals tend to flock away in various directions choosing multi-day tramping, visiting relatives, or simply getting out of the city. So, naturally, we expected our attendance numbers to drop this Saturday. And they did drop …by 2, going from 510 last week down to 508 this morning 😐 Given that only 81 were first timers and visitors, we can attribute this extraordinary turnout on a long weekend to the ridiculous fuel prices and AirNZ flight cuts πŸ€” Why go somewhere and spend a crazy amount of money when you can enjoy a free and perfectly fantastic start to the weekend on Wellington waterfront? πŸ˜…

We hope everyone did have a great parkrun and thanks again for choosing Waitangi parkrun to kick off your King’s Birthday weekend πŸ‘‘

We are also saying big thank you for today’s event to our 25 amazing volunteers making the magic happen on the course and behind the scenes: Barry Hodges (RD), Walter Somerville, Ellan Young, Sarah Fountain, Craig Anderson, Evelyn O'Brien, Karen Baker, Robert Cole, Ann Kendon, Elliott Lowe, Chris Mead, Eli Tanoi, Sam Turner, Joseph Peacock, Jacqueline Cope, Patrick Morgan, Tee Akavi, Liz Morrison, Norsaiful Rosli, Kambata Tshasuma, Catherine Vernon, Lisa McGrath, Emily Lowe, Yuliya Bozhko, and Graham Jenson 🧑🦺😍 There were some new faces on the roster this week and we really appreciate your help 😊

We had a royal selection of milestones this morning:

🀍 Kate Fingleton joined a junior j10 milestone club 🀩

πŸ’œ Paul Hewitson, James Griffin, Luke Falvey, Matthew Huynh, Thomas Shaw, Nicole Egan, Stephen Blum, and Paris Gleeson β€” all started their day with tackling their 25th event πŸ’ͺ

❀️ Surbhi Negi did a great job completing 50th parkrun event πŸ‘

πŸ–€ Tom Pullar-Strecker can now invest in a new running attire after crossing the finish line for the 100th time πŸ₯³

🧑 Mark Keegan reached an unofficial, but still amazing 150th milestone 😊

Well done, everyone! πŸ‘ You can relax for the rest of the weekend knowing you achieved something special πŸ€—

The first ever 1000 run/walk milestone is about to happen! 🀩

This weekend, Darren Wood will become the first person ever to join the 1,000 walk/run milestone club πŸ’›

That’s 5,000k covered over 22 years, a milestone that would still take around 19 years to achieve even with perfect attendance every Saturday 🀯
